Help New xperia PLAYer. . . .noob here :D

hello i just got my new Xperia Play (orange) today yay yay, . . .

some people nagg that this phone lags and slow, but been testing this thing for 5hrs. str8, and smooth transitions and nice response.

but im a total noob with android so guys i need help

im all up for modding but here are my concerns:

1. when rooted can i go back to my ORIGINAL O.S. (like it was brandnew)??

2. when rooted can i "Still" get the Official update??

3. oh and pls tell me how to make the brightness hold still, i feel like my display is adjusting every time i move (it goes dim then bright)

4. and what formats are in media??

pls. Suggest the Best Media player (that can play the latest and almost all formats)

5. if 1 and 2 are answered "yes" then pls. suggest "how to" or a "tutorial" for modding (easy to understand pls. )



oh and just for more info

~ i don't have wifi (if it request DL's direct from phone, i can't)
~ and can you point me to a direction of a tutorial for new users for android ( well just to know the ups and downs of the phone)

1. If youre asking if you can unroot it, yes you can.

2. That is most correct. Afaik, only screwing with the boot loader causes you not to get updates

3. There's a widget your R800i comes with out the box. Press and hold any empty spot on your home screen and add the brightness widget.

4. If you're asking what video formats it can play, 3gp and mp4. That's about it.



5. Google "super one click"

If you're looking for a nice video player, look for bsplayer on android market. Plays pretty much anything

If you root and don't remove anything from the system, then yes, technically, the OTA updates should work. However, most people root to get rid of the bloatware.

Your best move is to:

1. Root
2. Install CWM (ClockworkMod) available in Google Play.
3. Make a Nandroid Backup - this takes a snapshot of your system in its entirety.
4. Install Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware, but be cautious and don't remove anything you aren't sure about (see guides on xda-developers site).
5. If/when an update becomes available, you can restore your Nandroid and get the OTA.

when i've already rooted (gain super access?/admin)

will it be the same Os?? cause rooting only makes you gain super access/admin right??

-then i can delete/uninstall the bloatwares through
Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>*ALL*

or do i still need the titanium backup??

oh and last one, if i flash a Custom Rom (cynogen, etc.) can i still go back to my old Os?? (given that i saved a Nandroid backup *link pls*) ??

You can then proceed to remove any unwanted shyte you want, but I recommend you backup whatever it is you're about to uninstall with titanium backup first before uninstalling it. To ensure your Rom still functions properly, I must empathize that you only uninstall something if you're 100% sure of what it does. Uninstall the wrong thing and you may have to reflash your Rom.

As far as flashing custom roms go, I have no idea. If I'm right about it, you have to unlock your phone's bootloader first (feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong)

For the most part. CM7/9/MIUI all require custom kernels, a few are set up to be run from stock kernel (a nandroid backup) but I'm not sure for the R800i.
