Is this an official upgrade?????

"It looks like users of the HTC Vivid 4G LTE smartphone over on AT&T may have a tasty frozen treat waiting for them today. Yes this is the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update with the new HTC Sense UI 3.6 experience. Sadly AT&T has announced that the update is not, i repeat NOT rolling out, although multiple users have received it and a little trick will get you the update today. No hacking or root required."

Maybe AT&T will offer a better update and maybe sense 4.0 later? .. next week.. haha.. who knows.. I need a drink

it may have been an accident that the RUU(Rom Update Utility) was pushed to brandonbaskins, but it is very real. It works exceptionally well. I have sucessfully run it on my wifes phone once, and on my phone 5 times while trying to figure out the proper root/hboot and recovery update/rom flash. It works great...don't be afraid. Woodsy was skeptical...he and I are both believers! I have now rooted though, and that is much better...way faster...

Sense 4.0 cannot run on an hTC device without the upgraded camera hardware. Only the One X and the S have the image chip/image sense hardware for it to run on. Sense 4.0 has this hardware requirement.
That's why the One V has sense 3.6 with it's lower specs.
This tells me that all hTC devices getting the ICS update will have sense 3.6.

" Second, only the One lineup (X & S) can support ImageSense, which is an integral part of Sense 4.0. Whether you agree with the reasoning or not, this undeniably leads to further fragmentation of Sense -- something we've already seen to a lesser extent with 3.0 and 3.5 -- and it's not likely to get better anytime soon."

The One V didn't get sense 4.0 because of its lower hardware specs (camera) & it does not have the image chip/image sense so, the hardware requirements were not there to run sense 4.0.

*well that's false/incorrect, looks it did get 4.0 after all...*

Of course developers will port modified roms of 4.0 with some type of (limited) camera upgraded software to run on some devices where it is possible, that received the ICS/sense 3.6 update.
Some devices cameras are not fast enough/lack shutter speed to shoot still pictures while capturing video and or do burst/image sequence rapid succession capture... Idk...sounds definitely like a hardware requirement.

lol...incorrect again...trust me there will be sense 4.0 for the vivid in the near future, its already been ported over from another device, sense is an overlay nothing more, basically a skin for android...its not device specific ...but from sources we have....it will run it...dont believe all that you read on the web, somethings are not published:p

" Along with the ICS update, users can expect to see that HTC ‘s equally loved and hated Sense overlay moved up several notches, to version 3.6. If you were hoping to try out the revamped Sense 4.0, which newer models, such as the HTC One series will sport, you’re in for a disappointment. In the company’s own words, the decision to bar the HTC Sense 4.0 overlay on the older phones was due to hardware requirements. We’re pretty sure that the devs at XDA will beg to differ."

*OK, I honestly admit I'm wrong*

http://phandroid.com/2012/03/21/wel...-v-will-be-running-sense-4-0-after-all-video/

"As rumors have suggested, the device will only get HTC Sense 3.6 instead of the massive Sense 4.o update that can be found on the HTC One devices. This is due to the device not having an S4 or Tegra 3 processor. Hopefully a Sense 4.0 ROM will be hammered out by the awesome development community surrounding Android."

Comment to the article:

"Quentyn, Sense 4.0 has nothing to do with a Tegra 3 or S4, as evidenced by the HTC One V getting it. It's their new ImageSense chip that's the requirement, I believe. Sense 4 will not come to ANY pre-One device, officially at least. Plenty of devs are tackling that issue."

I wish you all the best developing your ROM, WCXWildChild. And I am not being sarcastic.
More power to you, I know you will create an experience everyone will enjoy.
Best wishes...GA.
