Root Root Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G?

Well we have source, SCH-R920 MTR Opensource.zip, I have a system dump, now we just need some time (from work) & some more interest from dev community...
I already have a few mods ready to go, but... I don't like to play too much until I have a solid recovery...
Like someone said above, if they can get a root method & all for the Admire going, then hell... all in due time I suppose, its been ages since Ive been stock unrooted, no sir, i don't like it one bit.

when i run z4root on the phone and superoneclick on the pc at the same time it says zerglings found a way in 0x10 ,but then later says zerglings returned nothing interesting. not sure if this will help anybody. maybe figure out the way they found in will lead to the exploitable app.

I've got a bricked Samsung Attain sch-r920 from metropcs if anyone has compiled the kernel... I've been attempting to learn how to develop the kernel myself with the open source file, but I'm a noob to cygwin and arm-gnueabi architecture. And yes, I know how ******ed I am for flashing without backing up, and blah...

So, I have odin and cygwin and sourcery codebench lite for the toolchain, arm-none-linux-gnueabi and sparce... although I can't figure out how to use sparce other than having it installed as the source code checker...

I've been trying to figure it out. Any developers out there? Can anyone make a basic kernel for the Samsung Galaxy Attain? Or, like Gypsybikes, give me instructions? Or tell me what variables I should set, other than cygpath, and export cross-config to the directory of the toolchain...

I would love to have a working phone again... OEM Tarballz anyone?

source didn't help me, (yet). Without any modifications, the source compiles and downloads to phone but phone just boot-loops. Other attempts to re-compile yielded same results.

Ditto. Forgot to mention that the boot loops. I think there has something to do with the kernel verification, because each time it fails when I flash a new kernel tarball zimage with odin.

Okay, after numerous attempts to fix using scripts and software, I have discovered that the adbd interface is up with /mnt/sdcard already mounted. (I thought I had tried this before and didn't work. Maybe was different computer -- is communicating with Linux box now). I can even login to shell without root (with the 3e recovery screen on phone prompting me to select update.zip file. Not sure where to go next but attempting to fix from shell prompt. At the very least -there seems to be some positive progress. Just need to figure out how to convince phone to restore from recovery.img. Anybody got any ideas on how to accomplish this?

I am a moderator over at AndroidInvasion with MikeToolz and am about to go get the Attain to see if I cant help you guys out. I am also going to be working with Mike to see we can't get what you guys want. would anyone appreciate this at all? I am also a decently prestigious guy over at the Esteem forums so let me know ASAP. whatever is posted when I get back will determine if I buy or not. I have no desire to get this phone but i will to support everyone here.

I just got this phone and had no idea there was no root before i bought it. That said, I am still glad I bought this phone. It is a great phone, very snappy for metro. i am pleasntly surprised. However, I have never been stock unrooted since purchasing my very first android, the Ascend. I will gladly donate to whoever gets this thing rooted and hooked up with a custom recovery of some sort. I will also donate for the root of this phone. As everyone seems to agree this is a great phone! My only problem is all the bloatware, when I'm not using the phone all these stupid metro apps just drain my battery. I'm using Juice Defender and a task killer and getting on average 30 hrs before it gets to around 10%, which isn't so bad but with heavy use that goes to about 5-7 hours. I used to have a rooted HTC Incredible 2 that would last for 5 or 6 days before recharging. Then in fell in the toilet.

Im so far from an expert on these types of things I wish I could help but what helps more then some $$$$!!

Lol no.... I picked a really bad phone to learn on... should have started on the ascend... tried a path opened by a combination of rooting tools (someone else in this tread noticed it, I just spent 12hrs looking into it) but it just freezes up with any change and actually bricked two phones flat out. (I think the local corporate store is on to me btw).
I can't afford a new one ATM so I'm just gonna gmao (Google my ass off) and talk with my old tech teacher.

However I will help support anyone who can supply proof of effort (sorry, I'm not very trusting when it comes to business. And this is business) as best I can.
My offer, $25 for effort $50 upon completion.
Effort must be proven with logs and/or screencaps. Effort is defined as any new progress or true attempt at progress. If I can Google it and find pre-existing proof that your attempt was proven to fail or that you plagiarized your logs or were in anyway dishonest I will deny payment and out you. If you are working in a group we will discuss fair payment based on your groups opinion.
If others choose to pool in with me the numbers will be adjusted to reflect the pool total.
upon enough pool requests a private PayPal fund will be created and the pool will be held by a trusted third party based on donor group vote and party availability.
If no root is found all donors will be refunded pool deposits.
All pool deposits will be refunded at donor request.

Playful doesn't dev when it comes to root afaik. He's not ignoring you, nor is konane. They just tend to be super busy with their other projects and whatnot. That and a swamped inbox only makes answering individual messages a bit tricky, some get missed some get passed up at the moment and disappear under the stack the next day (speaking from experience here. Plus I know PG fairly well and he's not the kind to cold shoulder someone without reason).

I was actually considering him, spyder (whom I know personally, been pretty tight since the ascend days and talk to fairly often) pipp2k (he currently uses a different handle I won't divulge now but he ported cm6 to the ascend), and konane as the pool holder in my proposition.

I'm just frustrated, jumping the gun on not being responded to, I know. I know PG doesn't deal with the actual root exploit, I am just hoping he can throw some direction in my way. Konane isn't ignoring me, he just hasn't been very active this week.

I'm just jumpy when it comes to getting this thing going, as I'm sure you are. Haven't been stuck in stock mode in some time now.

I thought I read about a way around the my extras. Maybe I was mistaken. I'm still waiting on my attain. I made an insurance claim on my indulge and since indulge is discontinued, I get an attain for the same deductible. I need to mention that in the indulge forums lol.

I am new to this forum, but I have been here several times over the last year or so to find information on different phones. I noticed that the attain has an unlocked bootloader so that you can install a custom rom without rooting the phone. Was wondering if anyone knows how to copy the rom off the phone to the computer so that I can try installing super user to the rom and then reinstalling the rom to the phone, or has anyone tried this yet, or would this even be possible?
