On a recent project (I'm an app designer) my Samsung Galaxy S2 was rooted unsucessfully by a rookie developer wannabe.

- It currently has the wrong firmware,
- The bottom three buttons don't work
- Reboots when usb lead is plugged in (unless in download/recovery mode)
- I don't have odin as I'm mac based and problem no.2 doesn't allow me to use Samsung Kies.

I need talking through via phone or skype how to change the firmware back to stock ICS or a working version of something like MIUI thats useable.

I will paid up to $150 as I really need help.
Add me on skype as matt-davey,

Thank you all so much, I hope someone can help!

PS I hope I posted this in the right place as it's not really a job just phone specific help.

Ok thanks, that's difficult when the hardware buttons don't work. I am going to give it a try though. Really need someone to help me with where I get the firmware from and be there if there are problems rather than links.

It might be worth giving it a try.

Plan B... you'll have to find yourself a Windows PC and install Kies and Odin. (although without the use of the buttons, as you say, almost impossible)

Plan C... a trip to the Samsung Service Centre and hope they don't notice that the wrong phone's firmware has been flashed.

I don't suppose that whoever flashed your phone for you, took a nandroid back-up of your original firmware by any chance?

If they did, you could enter Recovery and flash that back on.

I did this yesterday and apparently with just the firmware change its classified as BR - Beyond Repair.

As for borrowing a windows pc, not sure I would feel comfortable installing something like Odin on someone elses PC. I do have heimdall just need a walkthrough and advice on wtf I am doing.

I know all these tutorials exist but even if I installed VMware then install Odin I still have no idea what I'm doing these tutorials don't make much sense to me.

Thanks everyone for your help but the reason there is money attached to this is because I would really like someone to walk me through it and help if I get any problems.

Hawker If you know heimdall and rooting would you mind walking me through it quickly?

I can't believe someone who is an aspiring developer managed to screw you phone up so badly, considering rooting is pretty much the most straightforward task in the world - I had zero experience of rooting phones/hacking tech and was able to pull it off with no problems.

As others have said your best bet is take some time reading over the various guides and literature and trying it yourself. If you're going to be going around with a rooted phone it's important that you have at least a base understanding of how it works, otherwise you'll only end up bricking your phone again.

The XDA thread on MO explains it in very simple terms imo: [14.03.2012] Mobile ODIN v2.30 [ROOT] - xda-developers
Here's a YouTube guide on MO: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDBSGtDdJGk

I'm confused.... could he not just email himself the checkrom zip for example and flash that via CWM or something to get the phone back into a fully functional state?

Otherwise as said above mobile Odin is simple enough, your an app developer... about 3 minutes of reading should get you what you want; thanks to many of the fantastic tutorials on here and off here you don't even need to think, just follow the simple concise steps.

Also wondering why you would feel uncomfortable installing Odin on someones windows box? You actually do not install it, it is a stand alone application and from what i can see really cannot effect the PC in any negative way when run.

I'm probably wrong being a bit of a newb here BUT the first thing i'd of tried is emailing myself the checkrom .zip file, doing a full wipe in recovery (assuming you have a touch recovery installed i guess) and just installing that and go from there?

Lots of instructions for pulling that of in simple steps here, hope you solve the issue :)

To be fair, the guy needs the money for a new keyboard. The shift key, full stop and apostrophe have already stopped working and it looks like the L and Y might be on their way out too :D
