Want to Show your Appreciation?

I am totally new to this and just got my first android phone the Ascend 2. I was wondering if you could do a walkthrough of how to install CM7 , im rooted and currently have and use A2tude ROM but it was easy to install using ROM Manager so i didnt really have to do anything. Much help needed to install CM7.
Thanks in advance from a NOOB!!!!!!!

Flashing Roms is pretty easy, but if this is your first Android device, I'd wait until PG is done with his first stable build. If you want to tinker, then it's pretty easy:

Download the CM7 beta and Gapps from the Wiki. Put them on the root of your SD card.

Then go into ROM manager, reboot into Recovery.

When in recovery, make a backup. It's always good to have a backup to fall back on.

Once it's done backing up, go to the main menu and wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition.

Then go into mounts and storage.

Wipe Boot, System, Data, Cache, and SD-EXT (Not the SDcard itself, you need the files for the flash)

Then return back to the main menu of recovery, go into Advanced, and wipe Dalvik cache.

Once that is done, install the beta. Go into install zip from SDcard, select the .zip file for CM7. Once that is installed select reboot system. It will take a long time on first boot. Once it boots up and is working, reboot back into recovery, and install from SDcard again, and this time install Gapps. Reboot system again, and then proceed through Gapps setup. And now you should be good.

If you run into any problems booting, you can go back into recovery by pressing the volume up button on your phone while turning it on, and holding the volume up in until it loads recovery. Reflash or restore from your backup.

If anyone else sees that I'm missing something, make sure it's known.

Good luck!

I've got a slight problem with this ROM. When I flash CM7 beta, and Gapps, everything comes out perfect. No issues I noticed (Besides the obvious). Until I start using my apps. Whenever I log into my facebook app, it logs in and it works for the time being. Then, when I go back home and go back in the app later, it doesnt load and continues to Force Close for no reason.

Please help me out. this is a big app for my phone.

And by the way Joe, this does not work for Ascend 2. You have to install CM7 beta from sd card, and when its done DO NOT REBOOT. Install Gapps from the wiki. Then do gapps again. Then reboot.

For any of you who are experiencing a lot of issues, did you check the 5th post in this thread, where PG linked to the BETA build? The only thing in the beta build that is a known issue is wifi, and if you're still trying the alpha build and complaining, then you now see why you should read the whole thread, and not just the OP.

For those who ARE using the beta build, here's the cardinal rule for flashing a ROM:

DO A FULL WIPE FIRST.

If you don't, you're asking for problems, such as force closes, etc. If you DID do a full wipe and you're still having problems, then I would suggest that you backup your contacts and important data, do a FULL WIPE again, and then reflash the beta build. Don't skip any steps or go out of order, or you can thank yourself for any problems afterward.

Bad flashes can happen, people, I've had it happen myself, and the only cure is a reflash. If you're not willing to reflash, then I suggest sticking with stock and not flashing in the first place, because that comes with the territory.

Is anyone still working on this? Is wifi still broken?

There is actually an updated version on the Unleashed Prepaids forum. It was renamed to "DuckMOD", but it is basically just an updated CM7A2.

The main issue that I noticed is that USB tether doesn't work (only stays on for about a second). There are other glitches that I noticed, but they are minor annoyances. Just make sure you read the entire first post of the thread before installing it.

Any idea if it works on a phone from US Cellular? I assume it's the same thing as the Cricket one...

And when you say USB Tether doesn't work, does that cause ADB to be useless? or do you just mean networking through the phone for a laptop?

To be honest, Cyangogen would be nice, but i really just want to root my phone some how to get rid of the stupid carrier apps.

If it's the Huawei Ascend 2, it should work, though it will probably be programmed to connect to the Cricket network (unless that's what you want, but you should have Cricket flash it to their network first before installing any ROMs).
