if i want the pre kitchen on a phone that's already been rooted

what are you trying to do with the pre-kitchen?

If you're already rooted, then the pre-kitchen becomes useful for flashing themes, pulling/pushing apps, etc. It should work just fine with any ROM...well, almost any ROM

EDIT: I think you're misinterpreting what the pre-kitchen is. It's a program on your computer, not on your phone.

Oh.Oh. Oooooh. That makes sense. So how does it work?? And how do I use it??? And thanks for the help. As you can tell, I'm new at this. But, I love this Phone!! I actually had that HD phone. It was giving me some problems...so they switched it out for the HERO. And, boy am I happy!!!

just download it, unzip it to a file in your computer somewhere.

Basically, you can take a theme from somewhere, and flash it to your phone. Or you can pull files from your phone, or push them onto your phone, just to name a few things. It's an extremely versatile tool, and a lot of fun to play around with.

As I understand it, there's a new version coming out sometime in the near future...assuming he's still working on it, that is far more refined.

Well thanks for your help....I guess. But my ORIGINAL question is NOT answered in the thread you wanted me to read(which I had already done before asking). That is why I asked it. Anyway....my ORIGINAL question was " If I have already ROOTED my phone and installed the gumbo kernel...what do I have to do to install Pre-kitchen???". The thread you wanted me to read talks about rooting a phone with the pre-kitchen. But THANKS for the help. Maybe someone else can help me out.

Lol...your sarcasm is not even close to necessary, nor pleasant.

To further answer your question, pre-kitchen is simply a program that you run on your PC. Yes you can use it with Fresh 1.1. You can use it to push (send files to) and pull (take file from) your phone.

The thread I linked you to does have information in it, including a link to themes (which you asked about).

Furthermore, FAQ #9 states that you can use pre-kitchen after rooting.

your ORIGINAL was answered in post number 2 of this very thread..
your SECONDARY questions
so....ummm...where do you get the themes from? Push??? Pull?? What does that mean? You mean you can upload and download files from your phone?? I'm sorry, If I'm bugging. It's just that I really don't want to harm the phone in any way.

were answered in the rooting guide and subsequent posts in that thread.. so you got helped in both cases and yet complain about the help offered... good to know....

Okay so, I rooted my phone with flash and added the gumbo kernel. My question is. If I want to go the pre kitchen route, what do I have to do??? Do I have to re-root?? Do I have to erase the gumbo kernel?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey man...

These guy's are not trying to be rude so don't be discouraged. Your questions have been answered by the reading material they linked to. Unfortunately they have answered the same questions over and over and over... and it gets tiring answering the same questions in detail all the time.

It really is best if you read as much as you can and double check searches in the forums before you ask a question. Do this and you will be surprised how much you will learn and you will not be uncomfortable when tweaking your phone.

Have fun learning and tweaking! :D

The only real way to screw up (brick) the phone is to flash something designed for a GSM phone. In other words, if you pick it up from a site not really specified for CDMA Hero's, I wouldn't mess with it. This forum, and XDA (Hero CDMA - xda-developers), are two great forums for the CDMA Hero.

I dont think thats true. I believe I read it on xda forums but there is a certain error you can get when trying to root which will not allow you to send any commands that you normally would. And you can only get into fast boot. Apparently your pretty much screwed if this happens to you.

ahhh... that of course is a rare occurrence... and yes it can happen.. bricking a phone is a risk you take when rooting... plain and simple.. however, it is VERY hard to brick the phone when rooting...and it's VERY hard to brick the phone when flashing a rom.. but flashing a GSM rom on a CDMA phone will be a 100% brick..

I understand rare or not, I dont think its right to say that the only way to brick is to flash a gsm rom (as was previously posted in this thread)

and I stand corrected, as I didn't notice the RUU bricking. previous post is edited.
Wasnt an attack on you (just so we are clear). Im just trying to stop misinformation that way everyone is clear on possible (but rare) problems. Until I read that, I thought gsm rom was the only way (other than freak accidents of battery going out or something crazy).
