I'm sorry to be the downer here.. but after a few days with it I can safely say that 2.1 sucks. In 3 months with the phone I never had as much trouble as the past three days.. today i tried to show a friend a youtube video (no sound), take a picture (camera crashed) and call someone (no sound.. had to restart phone). Ive had crashes galore, it seems slow.. and I am so tired of having to login to my stupid gmail over and over..

I used to like this phone.. now it's useless. I don't even use it for much.. so I cant even imagine how frustrating it is for someone who uses it all day. I wish I could go back to 1.5.. or get off android all together. Do you really have to be logged into gmail all the time? I dont want gmail.. I just want a phone..

Take your phone to the verizon store and have them restore it to factory for you.

i am pretty sure they would just do a factory reset for you and all that would do is erase your data and default the settings back and you would still have 2.1.

in regards to the op if you are really committed on getting 1.5 back then you can break the phone so that it wont even turn on like soak it in water or drop it from a really large height to mess the screen up and then get a new one.

and this is just me wondering but if you dont use it that much then why get 2.1 in the first place?

I used to have to log into gmail over and over too, but everything else works great, camera is fast... youtube app finally works...

I think switching synchronizing settings fixed the gmail log in problem.

2.1 leak works great and just installed the beta swype. :)

PS: And I remember someone complaining about it not showing the actual date when someone called you, and now it does 03/07. :) Should be a setting though, because I think I would prefer it displaying the Day of the week within the 7 days. :p

I haven't had any of the problems you've had. I've actually been enjoying the new camera layout, youtube finally works 100% of the time and my phone is slightly more responsive.

I've only had to log into my gmail 2 times since I installed 2.1 the day it leaked.

You should just try and wait until the official OTA comes out, there won't be near as many crashes and bugs like having to sign into gmail all the time.

I mean, you did download and install an unofficial, not ready for public version, did you really expect no problems at all?

And believe it or not, being logged into gmail is a bonus, it helps backup your contacts and all that.

They should be able to manually flash it back for you. Resetting to factory defaults, I believe, can be done by the end user. I sure if you look hard enough you could find the 1.5 rom for download and flash it back yourself.

What sync settings did you do to fix the gmail login issue?

Thanks for sharing the information.
Have no complaints with the Eris the way it is and look forward to the update (other than -would like to be able to save apps to memory card).
Glad I am waiting for the official release.
Patience is a virtue.

it seems to me that the ones having problems with the 2.1 update are the ones that try to "sync" their old contact information from their 1.5 roms , or whatever you call it. dont claim to know a lot about this stuff just trying to point out the obvious. i've had 2.1 on my phone 3 days now and havn't had any of these major problems that some claim to have....sure its kind of a pain in the butt that i had to put all my contacts back in manually but it beats the alternative.

Sorry, all I see is people cheering it on. I just wanted those wondering that not all is rainbow and butterflies with the leaked 2.1. I think thats worth a thread.

How come people always get so annoyed when you don't agree with them that everything works amazing? It's just another opinion. I wish I had the great luck you have, but all I have is a phone that crashes a lot. Of course.. it is a leaked operating system.. I totally take responsibility here. Im just letting others know that my phone is driving me nuts since I updated.

And yea.. Im not trolling.. just not that impressed with android overall. Its just another mediocre operating system. And no im not an iphone fanboy.

Ok. You're using an unofficial release and now complaining. Well, you either need to learn how to fix your phone when you mess it up or stop installing leaked software. Pick one, in this case you can not have your cake and eat it too.

Here is a solution: never rent the movie hackers again. Never download leaked updates ever again. Do a hard reset and see how it works.

I had everything (contacts, calendar, etc.) sync back from google. I didn't load anything else or back anything else up. The only problem I am having is with gmail not showing images. Everything is working great.
