Negotiate for a better rate?

I've been a customer for 8+ years, and I'm not on contract. I'd really like to get an iPhone, but the MyTouch seems kind of cool as well.

Do you think if I call TMobile (after Mytouch launches), and tell them I want to cancel to get an IPhone, that they would negotiate a monthly fee for me that would make it worth my while to stay and get the MyTouch instead?

Ask about the loyalty plan. 8 years is long enough that you might be able to ask for a little more off your bill. Also ask about the individual discount program.

I found the loyalty plan a complete bust. 49.99 a month for unlimited calls, data and texts are still extra. My current myfavs plan is 39.99 and I barely call anyone. I don't want to pay 10 bucks more for the privilege of saying I have unlimited calls. Between myfaves and my my regular minutes I barely use 200 minutes total.


Besides, it sounds like it's toast anyway:

I guess Ill just have to wait and see what the CSR says. My goal is to get the cheapest minutes plan + data + text for 50.

Ok, so the loyalty plan isnt for you. Regardless, 50 dollars for unlimited calling is, more or less, unheard of among the major carriers. Sure it's just unlimited calling, but adding unlimited text is only $15, making it 65 dollars a month. A 35 dollar savings over the standard unlimited plan. Factor that over a 24 month period: $840.

And it's not gone, per se. Those who were eligible for it, still are. But after the cutoff no one new can qualify for the plan unless they bring it back.

You're not adding in data, which would make it more expensive than what I'm already paying. And again, I don't need unlimited minutes, or unlimited text, I'm not getting anywhere near my limit on either of those. A loyalty plan should be a bit more individualized than this. A discount on unlimited minutes would make sense before 3G services existed and IM was realistic on a phone, but now it's so very 1990's. It also doesn't make sense when, say, Sprint has an unlimited everything plan that's 99$ -- their network is better, their market share is bigger, and you don't have to be a loyal customer to take advantage of that 99$ plan. T-Mobile has to start taking bigger risks if it's going to match pace with the other carriers, and starting with a sure bet (loyal customers) is the first place to do it.
