LG Lucid uses old S3 qualcomm CPU, confirmed.

Anyone interested in this phone be warned that it uses the OLD snapdragon S3 CPU and OLD power-hunger 4g LTE external chip

Does not matter that its 1.2ghz and dual core, this S3 CPU is HALF the speed of the 1.2ghz S4 and uses more power which is why this phone is so bulky and requires such a large battery for a 4" phone.

LG Lucid - Old Cortex 8 based CPU cores and old, power hunger 45nm design.

Snapdragon S4 phones will be here in a few weeks (incredible 4g)
Snapdragon s4 - Cortex 15 like cores and power efficient 28nm design.

They are obviously trying to dump the old stock of two-generation old CPUs which is why Verizion is releasing this phone 4 weeks before the Incredible 4g. They are well known for doing this in the past to dump old hardware.

I dont understand why anyone would get this phone and lock themselves in a two year contract for outdated hardware. Makes no sense.

It's still a good mid range phone to consider though. For our budget minded members, this shouldn't be overlooked. Might be a good Android device for beginners. :)

For $80 or less, I don't expect this phone to have the best processor or screen it just has to be good.

I agree, I think this phone could be a good compromise for some users. I like the 4" screen and have read in a few places that the battery life is pretty darn good.

I dont think people here are comprehending whats going on.

Verizon has FREE phones with the same or BETTER specs than this LG. Why on earth would ANYONE pay $80 for this outdated phone when you can get a better one for FREE????

Seems to me like nobody understands hardware here. This LG Lucid uses the same old SLOW (cortex a8 based) S3 CPU. This cpu architecture is over 2 years old and completely unacceptable to sell today.

Yeah, the form factor is really nice, IMO. I wish the screen resolution was at least qhd but on a 4inch screen its not too bad. It reminds me of the d1 in regards to the display.

I totally understand what you are saying, would I buy this phone? Probably not. Because it's my preference to have a better processor and better display. But that's me. Maybe the people who want this phone might not care about having the latest hardware but they care more for the form factor. There's no other LTE phone with this form factor so it might still be a viable option for some.

What I think you need to realize is that this is a forum with a diverse group of members that have different views of what kind of phone they like. I totally respect your opinion and agree with most of your points.

So what would you like to suggest as an alternative option for people who are looking into buying the lucid? I think out would be beneficial to or members.

Just played around with one today, and I have to admit I really do like the way it feels in my hand, much more comfortable than the larger "flagship" phones. The interface felt snappy, though I'm not sure I'm a fan of the custom LG twists on the OS. The phone seems to offer a unique feature set at that size, and considering the price I think it's a good deal for someone that doesn't know or care too much about the hardware specs, but wants an affordable and very functional Android phone.

I'm probably going to hold out on my upgrade longer until I drive my DINC into the ground, but it's nice to see a manufacturer put out a handset of this form factor that doesn't feel too crippled.

ok, so if I need a phone that isnt so HUGE to hold. What do you recommend instead?

I had wrist surgery a year ago and I am unable to comfortably hold one of the wider phones. I used my upgrade and tried the Razr, used it for a couple months...just too wide / long.

There are women who want the better spec phones but not the gigantic form factor. If this phone functions well and gets ok reviews I may pay full retail to tide me over until something better comes out.

Aww man it sucks to hear you had wrist surgery. In regards to width this phone is the smallest but I find that the rezound besides the weight is also pretty easy to hold. It's only $50 now at VZW it has better hardware than the Lucid. Better display, slightly higher clocked processor and a better camera.

The bionic is ok too in the width department but it's up to the user's preference. Check them out.

Good luck!

My gf just got the Lucid and I just ordered the Rezound. Lucid is definitely much smaller overall and very light. She had the OG Droid since the beginning and didn't want a huge phone and didn't want to spend $200+ either. She's loving it so far and hasn't had any problems. I've played with it a bit and it appears to be a great phone for the price.

Still wondering why the OP is bashing this phone so bad. Got something invested in this new Incredible 4G that's coming out? If its being released in a few weeks, why have we heard absolutely nothing from Verizon?? They hype the crap out of their Droid phones and not a peep yet. I would have waited, but seems the Rezound is the best way to go right now, especially for $50.

By far the worst advise anyone can take. Its clear you have absolutely no idea how much of a massive leap in technology the S4 chip is. Its the biggest leap in smart phone technology ever.

Perhaps not. What we are talking about is not only advancement in technology but function and value. A lesser phone may provide an excellent value for some who have modest needs and, frankly, let's face it, staying on the leading edge of technology is hardly a value proposition.

And let's not make assumptions about what someone does or doesn't know.

Can you elaborate? Why would it be so prudent to wait for a phone with the S4 chip in your budget?

Pretty sure he got banned for spewing crap info lol.

Anywho, the S4 chip is only available in one single phone that's out right now, and its the brand new HTC One S, meaning you aren't getting it for less than $250. If you are on any sort of budget and like a relatively compact phone, this would be a great choice. If you don't mind a bigger phone, the Rezound is on sale now for $50 online.

Silly question but between Rezound and this phone, which is the better phone overall? This is for my wife so she doesn't care about overclocking, specs, etc. She just wants something that will let her go on the internet, check email, text, maintain her calendar/appts, have good battery life, and play the occasional game on. Ive read some of the reviews on Verizon's website for the Rezound and the negatives seem to be poor battery life, freezes/crashes, reboots and there aren't many reviews on the Lucid to make a real comparative decision

Have her go to the store and play around with both of them. You can do all the spec comparison you want, but until you hold the phone and mess around with the interface, you won't know which is "better". Verizon commercials are marketing the Lucid as the "easy to use smartphone", but there's really nothing "easier" about it than any other Android phone.

My wife-to-be has the Rezound and has had very few gripes since she upgraded from the original Droid (which she complained about all the time). I'm more comfortable with it because I'm familiar with the Sense UI being an Incredible owner, but I just can't get over the size of the Rezound. It may be the technically superior phone, but I think I'm leaning toward the Lucid for my next phone because when I held it in my hand it felt comfortable and maybe I'll just have to get used to the different UI. Or just root and use a ROM I'm more comfortable with :).

Yeah hopefully somebody will root this and get rid of all the bloatware. The one thing that I did read upon that stood out for me as a negative for the Lucid is that audio on the speakerphone and phone call quality is not so good. Other than that, it appears to be a solid budget 4g phone.

Hey all. I just picked up my Lucid yesterday. I am a heavy android user have rooted every phone I owned. I was ready to upgrade to a Nexus or a Rezound but just don't love the massive phones. Something about the Lucid intrigued me and the specs were impressive. Let me just say after a day of use I love this phone. It is insanely snappy, every bit as fast as the Rezound.

I also don't mind LG's overlay. The lock screen is nice. The Camera takes great shots and shoots as fast as the Iphone 4s. I have had no problems with phone quality. It is clear to me.

It is easy to bash phones on paper but after having four different Android phones I realize that some of the phones I owned that were inferior on paper ended up being the better phone.

Needless to say I am impressed with the Lucid. It actually has a unique design, fits great in the hand, has a nice thought out interface, and isn't a boring cookie cutter android phone.

Plus I got is for $30.

Bravo LG.

Thanks for your review. I went to VZ last week so that my wife and I could check out the phones. The Lucid has a nice slim form factor and was pretty responsive. When I went over to play with the Rezound, I couldn't get online at all. Rebooted the phone and even had one of the salesman try to figure it out. He had to give me his personal phone to get a feel for the Rezound. Although, it's a nice phone, the fact that they couldn't get the internet working was kind of a redflag. I think I will get the Lucid for the wife tonight. I could get it for $30 too, but I wanted to save that loyalty discount for my phone. At the store, I think I can still get it for $80, but i'd have to use a rebate for it.

If you can wait (it's on backorder), Amazon has it for .01 (for new and existing (assuming you are eligible for an upgrade).

Day 4 with this phone (2 days rooted) and I really, really like it... I just finished ftp'ing (because I can :) ) some mp3's, and then an avi file to test it out... 23 minutes to transfer 645M, but so what? It's ftp, that's most of the problem.

For me, the bottom line is: the phone is cheap, it's fast, and it's fun.

What are folks up to with their phones that is chewing up so much battery/processor? Not a professional so I have no idea what is out there for capabilities.

Seems to me that the display and the 4G are soaking up a lot of juice. When I'm doing some heavy browsing/facebook/twitter/g+, the battery tends to drain pretty quickly and the phone heats up quite a bit. To me, it's not a big deal as long as my phone doesn't start rebooting like my Incredible ended up doing. Can't do any kind of web browsing/games without the damn thing overheating and rebooting eventually. :D

Do you have any temp #s? My Incredible rarely gets over 110 degrees. My Lucid rarely runs under 110 it seems and peaked at over 130. I use Gauge Battery Widget for temperature readout on my notification bar.

No, but I think it was just my phone. My wife's Incredible never had that problem. Even swapped batteries and still had the issue. I think it was a defective phone and got worse over time.
