Root Consistent issue w/ESE53 ROMs and Youtube player?

I've seen an issue now on both Chevy's and Pete's ESE53 ROMs.

I play a video using the youtube player, and the video locks up, touchscreen and phone buttons non-responsive, and then the phone reboots.

I did a full wipe/reset and installed all apps from the market when I installed Pete's ROM, so it's not due to a messy setup...

Doesn't happen every time, but very frequently. Last night I played some or all of three videos, no issue. This morning tried one and my phone locked up/rebooted within the first five seconds of the video.

Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks for confirming...hopefully the devs will be able to figure this out. Could be an issue that the Google/Moto/Verizon folks are aware of and working on, or have fixed in a later rev of the 2.1 ROM.

I tried going through the mobile site and I was able to view using the Youtube client but my phone reboots when I switched to HQ. Maybe that's where the problem lies. Yeah, I hope they fix it.

I had the same problem running smoked glass 5. I also wipede and restored cuz I loved the rom so much. It worked well a few times and then it started happening again. I also think its the hq aspect since when u root its aoutmativally that. I ended up going back to droidmod untill they can fix or addresss that issue. Havnt had a problem with the youtube since.

Someone at Alldroid suggested lowering the clock speed. I was set to 1GHz.

I set it to 800MHz and played a bunch of videos fine. So I thought that maybe 1GHz is too fast.

Then set it to 1.1GHz and videos still played fine. Huh?!

Then set it back 1GHz and got the same lock up/reboot again. Hmmmm....

The Chevy kernel I'm running has two 1GHz slots...goes from 900 to 1000 and then to 1000 again, and then 1100. Chevy said he was aware of this but it wasn't an issue...appears it either is an issue, or for some reason 1GHz and youtube aren't happy together, at least on my Droid.

I was on the second of the two 1GHz slots, checked and same lockup/reboot happens on both 1GHz slots. So this looks like an issue w/the particular Chevy kernel that I'm running...or (which seems too odd) that 1GHz specifically isn't compatible.

You guys might try changing your OC settings...try a slot higher or lower and see if you have the same results I do, or maybe try a different kernel.

I've been playing around in YouTube since I read this thread, and I haven't had any freezes yet playing HQ (over 3G initially, but then I switched to wifi for faster loading)

I'm running at 1GHz w/ JIT. I think you're right about it being a clock speed issue, and not an issue with the ESE53 ROMs, especially if you're using the same kernel across all of them.

I've switched from Chevy's 10-slot to his 5-slot kernel, and I've had better results in terms of stability with JIT. You can find all of his kernels here:

ChevyNo1 - Get Yer Kernels Here (ERE25 Only)

Also, AdamZ is moving to 5-slot only, as the higher slot kernels have a chance of overwriting your "OPP registry". I have no idea what that is, but I don't want to find out.

I dnt know if that's the case. I asnt even on 1.2 and was clocking @ 800 @ the time and it kept happening. I'm thinking it takes a while to acually kick in, or it can just b the phones and how each build resonates to it. Trust me, I would b using smoked glass right now if it wasn't for this issue. On droidmod I'm @ 1gh and I havnt had any issues with the youtube @ all

Funny - w/the 5 slot and 10 slot 1GHz kernels on Chevy's page I get repeated boot loops...boots up, but when I start trying to reset the setCPU settings I get sudden reboot, no UI, just shuts down and restarts.

Never had that issue w/any other kernel I've used...

The 10 slot Chevy kernel (w/the two 1GHz slots) that I've been using never causes reboots (except w/the youtube playback at 1GHz). Pretty odd...

Could definitely be an OC issue, I am having this very same problem using BD's Ultimate 6.3, I also had this problem with Smoked Glass 5.0. If anyone has any good feedback on how I can correct this issue that would be fantastic!!! I am not a huge youtube user but every now and then I like to watch a video.

I should note that both of these ROM's kick major butt and they both have there Pro's and Cons. I appreciate the hard work by Adamz, BlackDroid and all others putting out quality ROM's.

Keep up the fantastic work....

Things got really weird for me after trying the alternate Chevy kernels...even after I went back to my original Chevy kernel (w/the two 1GHz slots) I kept getting sudden reboots.

Did a nandroid restore of my system to set it back to the state before I tried the other kernels, and things are good again.

Never seen an issue where kernel change was leaving stuff behind when another kernel was applied over it. Don't think it was operator error, as they were update.zip updates. Strange...

Sorry to hear that Redflea. I guess everyone's Droid is different!

Anyways, I've got a good setup now, but I'm always tinkering. I'm going to try AdamZ's new kernel now, since he says there are 3 voltage options, and I want to try the low voltage settings (more battery life is always nice :D)

If anyone wants to give it a try, here's the thread:

[Release] Smoked Glass Boot *Updated 03/08* (ALL Builds/Voltages - 42 Kernels)
