Agghhhhhhhh....too many options/unknowns

I have had my NE2 with Verizon since Sept. and I cannot make up my mind as things keep changing in regards to the Pros and Cons of different devices. I originally wanted the Droid (I like physical keyboards) but lately the N1 has my attention......that was until:

1) Screen issues
2) No Calendar Sync with Outlook (I am a business user as well)
3) Reported 3G issues with T-Mobile (could be carrier isolated)

I know the N1 has better hardware (screen not included) than the Droid but other than processor and Android 2.1 (Droid should get that soon enough) why do I want to wait for the N1? The screen enough scares me but I also don't want to be stuck with a phone that will go from speedy (Droid) to slow if I have too many apps running or because it only has 256 mb of RAM.

I am just an indecisive lug who likes the newest devices but being that I will be using this for work too....I need something that is going to help me in that capacity. Right now work is on Lotus Notes 6.5 (but changing to Outlook in 30-60 days). I don't plan on playing any games (3D at least as I like brain games) so that's not an issue.

Any help or suggestions or info would be great. Thanks!

Part of the 3G issues were with Tmobile's network coverage or lack there of. But being that the difference between the Tmo and Verizon N1's is going to be a new radio those problems should be fixed.
As for multi-touch issues I dont think they are as bad as some say. The fact all the problems with multi-touch came from 1 app should have been a warning. Android Central did a bit about it.

Calendar sync you're SOL with the N1, at least for now.
So why wait for the N1? Well rumors keep abounding but as of now the Droid will always just have 3 home panels to 5 for the N1. I tried a couple of home replacement apps on my Droid when I had it but they had their issues.
The Droid is never ever going to have 512 mb of ram. So more apps can be run on the N1 at the same time. You just have to decide how many do you expect to run without killing them off?

Regarding the Calendar issue, can you set up a Google Calendar and synchronize your work calendar with that which then syncs with your phone. That's what I've done and it works for me.

I was going to say if your work network supports Outlook web access, you can get around it that way. Does that Touch Down app let you get a calendar from Exchange? The IT department at my place is so paranoid that we can't get to the exchange server from outside our network, so I am boycotting exchange completely in protest.

I'm not gonna offer any technical advice since you're already getting good stuff from others and, really, it's just going to boil down to what you, personally, can compromise on and what you can't...

But, doesn't VZW have a policy with the NE2 of "use it within 6 months or lose it"? I know for a fact that they used to (because I came close to missing out on it on my last phone 2 years ago) but I'm not sure anymore. That's something definitely looking into if you've had it since September... You might only have a couple days left.

I would mainly use Exchange Sync for business email, Google services, navigation and Social Media Apps. The only games I would be interested in are brain games (scrabble, crossword) etc.

Will it automatically sync and send reminders? My main thing is having to take the least amount of effort to make it work.

Ne2 discounts do not change or expire. And I did not stay at a holiday inn last night. The badge swipe I do every morning to walk in the door leads me to believe I am am employee who reads policy and understands it. You ate fine.

Yes. I have Google Sync running on my office PC and it syncs my Outlook calendar with my Google calendar at least a few times a day. Then I also have Google Sync running on my BlackBerry to sync the Google Calendar with my BB. It works well for me.

Can you even sync your work e-mail with a personal device. Most companies with a decent it security department forbid that. So I carry a droid of my own and my company blackberry.

Nope, no e-mail sync. Calendar only.

I mean to type calendar, as in can you sync your calendar (work policy not can you find software). I'd bet if they won't allow syncing e-mail they wont allow syncing calendar since you can easily copy/paste or drag and drop info from an e-mail to a calendar. People can send meeting invites with documents attached to them as well. I even went to my itsecurity people asking if I could even forward myself invites and they said if they let me they would have to let everyone then try to police it when people started forwarding more info in the meeting invites.

I'm not sure what the official policy is on that. They did recently institute a policy where personal devices could be set up to access the company BES. However, I only pay for BIS (and I don't want company e-mail on my personal BB anyway) so I didn't bother looking into it further.

Now mine said I can put my personal info in the company calendar, I keep track of kids school schedules and such so it wouldn't be too big of deal, but I've kept my personal calendar for decades and exporting things from the work oue would be an issue and I might not want work to be able to see some things like if I schedule time at the shooting range as big companies are usually anti's

Agreed. I only sync mine one-way so that my personal calendar doesn't go to Outlook.

Back to the original poster - If you can wait a little while longer, the HTC Incredible may or may not be coming out soon as well. Specs haven't been confirmed but so far they look to be similar to the N1 and it's more likely that the Incredible will be available in stores instead of the N1's direct-from-Google-only sales approach.
