Note version, good or bad?

I recently purchased a International Note, great phone, I love it, the phone is very fast, I am also using straight talk. The only problem I have is it keeps switching from H to H+ then 3G then back and forth , and when I send a pic it like kills the internet and I have to go turn off data and turn it back on?... no idea. anyways here are my specs:

Model number: GT-N700
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: N7000XLA4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
dpi@DELL174 #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6

I do not know which country this phone came from, anybody know? Also is this a good one? Which thing would I download to root the phone? Is rooting worth it?

I use to have an HTC Thunderbolt I rooted, and it didnt really do much besides allow me to change the roms and stuff.. Phone actually acted like it ran slower.

Hi,

First what I know: I have installed two OTA updates on my Austria sourced Note and aside from the slightly modified standard keyboard I cannot say that I have noticed much.

Next what I am speculating: I would say that, unless you have a hardware problem with your antenna, you probably have more of a signal problem that a firmware one. Do you haven't 4 bars of signal when this is happening or are you barely connected? The H and H+ data rates are negotiated on top of the 3G signal so you need to have a good connection to get them. Do you have the problem everywhere or just in one location? Do you also lock your Internet connection when using WiFi?

Not much help so far but I hope that this gives you some pointers.

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

My spec is absolutely identical to yours (except you dropped one of the 0's off GT-N7000). I bought mine from Expansys in the UK. I'm not sure there is a UK spec model as such as they all seem to be known as the international model but at any rate yours is absolutely identical to mine.

As for your 3G issue, I live in an absolute dead zone for 3G so I deliberately keep mine off otherwise it kills the battery constantly hunting for a signal. I use the JuiceDefender Ultimate widget to force 3G off and on. When I'm out and I need it on it's just like yours, constantly changing to H or H+, sometimes dropping to E (for Edge, basically GPRS speeds). It's down to the strength of the signal. The phone is trying to find the best signal it can to give the best speed it can. If you sometimes have to turn it off then on again it seems that something is either disabling it or interfering with it. You need an app that monitors not only 3G usage but can also tell you what apps are using or controlling the 3G connection. I don't actually know of any, purely because I haven't needed an app like that, but someone on the forums might know of one.

This is the latest official ROM and it's really buggy. At least I couldn't stand it and had a lot of problems with it. I then tried a lot of custom ones and finally I chose ICS Stunner, an Android 4.0.3. It works awesome, it's based on AOKP with all the Euphoria controls and I'm very happy. A downside for some might be that you're stuck with Apex launcher and miss the Samsung Galaxy Note apps for the S-Pen.

If you want to give it a try, here's a guide: How to update Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 to ICS Stunner 4.0.3

my signal is fine when it starts doing it, is the H+ better than 3G? also without an app I can only turn off data connection, not just 3G. It has never went down to edge that I have seen. When im on wifi I just turn it on, I do not disable the mobile network, it should itself... but when it kicks out or whatever i just go to use packet data, uncheck it then recheck it, and it works again. It has not done it today thankfully, maybe after I turned the phone off then on it fixed it.
