Confirmed by t-mobile:
NAME CENSORED: Hi there, my name is NAME CENSORED, I am part of the dedicated T-Mobile Online Sales Team. May I ask if you are enquiring about a new contract or an upgrade today?
NAME CENSORED: Hi
NAME CENSORED: New Contract
NAME CENSORED: Great! I'm glad you are interested in a new plan with us today. In order for me to find the best deal for you may I first ask you a few questions?
NAME CENSORED: No thanks, I've got one question, is the LG GW620 due for an upgrade to Android 2.0/2.1 or what?
NAME CENSORED: Yes, NAME CENSORED 1st april
So there we have it, 1st of April for you guys with the GW620 who are on T-Mobile UK.

Sale people will tell you what you want to hear in order to get a sale. Once you are signed in it will be " oh my bad sir, it is not 2.0 but 1.6".
I agree unfortunately.

And the OP even stated in the chat with the sales rep " is the LG GW620 due for an update to Android 2.0/2.1 or watever?" To which the sales person simply "yes". No confirmation on what version of Android can be taken from that!

It was about my 5th chat with the same guy and I wanted to change my writing style so he didn't suspect that I wasn't actually going to buy any handsets.

Whilst I agree, this could be a joke(however, it being a joke is very unlikely) it is more likely to be a sales tatic, go to here and say you want to join t-mobile, than you can just ask whatever questions you want about the handset.

They say that all T-Mobile handsets will have 2.0 by May, which in my opinion could be true since the handsets they have are: Samsung Galaxy Spica, HTC Hero, T-Mobile Pulse Mini and LG GW620 all of which(apart from the GW620) are confirmed to be having 2.1 updates.

So believe what you want, but ask them yourselves and post back with the results.

OK, I'll start a chat with them and ask.

Edit:

Just sent this email to LG UK support, will update when I have a response:

I, as well as a few others, have been very curious about an Android update for this device. Currently in Canada on Rogers, the device has been released with 1.5, with a plan to upgrade to 1.6. T-Mobile has started to offer this phone, and they're boasting that it comes preloaded with 1.6 but there are plans to upgrade to 2.1 (I had a live chat with a t-mobile sales rep who confirmed this, as well as some others in this (http://androidforums.com/lg-eve/50948-lg-gw620-will-getting-official-2-1-android-update.html) forum). Can you please confirm/deny the upgrade to 2.1 on the LG GW620?
LG UK Response:

Dear Greg XXXXXXXX,

Thank you for your email.

We cannot make any comments regarding what T-Mobile have told you.

Obviously LG are planning to update the Android software. We do not have any news at this time as to the release date. We would recommend that you visit our website www.lgmobile.com from time to time to find any news of an update.

Best regards,

You: yes i do
Kevin: 1.6 is on the phone

The sales rep from your chat said that it comes with 1.6, which is wrong as confirmed with various reviews that have stated it has 1.5. Therefore, I would never believe that a rep said 2.X will be coming.

Just thinking out loud, but I wonder that they would say it you weren't a new customer! ;)

the update from LG is the phone software only - updates to 10c. Be careful updating, my phone went into a boot loop halfway through the update, Rogers refused to replace the phone - they sent it away for repairs refusing to providing me with another smartphone. (so much for customer service - was on phone all the way up to someone from the office of the president) repair center had it for a couple weeks before sending it back - they replaced the whole mainboard - good news is that it had the update to 10c

I'm on Rogers myself and did the upate myself following the procedure described in this forum with success. But 10c is the one I had before and I had bugs (SD card unmounting frequently and sometimes a black screen. When I was getting that black screen bug, I had to remove the battery and restart the phone).

Now if I check the software version it says GW620R-V10f and mostly everythings seems to work fine.

I am quite intrigued when you state that 10c is the latest and I do not think that the fact that my locale languague is french would explain this.

I bought my phone on feb.22 2010 at Place rosemere and it come with the 10c firmware already in it.
I also read that the upgrade on LG website is to 10f.
I have to do it, I am just too lazy.. lol

I've had my Eve for a couple of months and it has 10f. My wife has had problems with a lot of dropped calls so I attempted to update to the latest version last night using the LG Update software. I was having lots of problems just getting the phone recognized in my Win7 64 bit PC, but it's done that all the time.

I think I'll try updating on my laptop tonight. Hopefully 10f fixes the dropped calls issue.

i'm currently running 10c and i'm trying to update to 10f. every time i connect up with software and boot phone it says update available then when phone is fully boots up it kicks out and says phone disconnected. seems kind of like a driver issue conflicting? has anyone else had this problem ? the 800 number for lg canada will not work on magic jack either.

Here's what I just posted in another thread:

I had the same thing happening to me all the time. I was trying to update the software using LG Update program and could not get the phone to stay connected via USB on my Win 7 64 bit PC. I tried it on my Win 7 32 bit laptop and it worked great. Got the update done to V10f. Apparently, this update fixes the USB not mounting correctly, but I haven't tried it yet. I will tonight.
You should try another computer if you can.

that's amazing you got yours to update to 10f brit; i now tried it on 3 different computers (2 on win xp and other on win vista) same thing so phone related i presume. the update is ready to install however it drops the connection on when the android splash screen is up and you hear the music on booting. this is really annoying. i even tried pulling out the sd card to see if that helps, nope. i wonder if the the 1.6 update from rogers will correct this and beef the software to at least 10f. i sure hope the o/s update is over 3g and not a download to give us more usb connection grief.

Both Rogers and Lg have confirmed that the "spring" update will be 1.6.

Everyone seems to forget that 2.0 and up requires better hardware than 1.5/6 needs. I'm not a hardware expert by any means, but could the processor in the 620W run the 2.0 OS at a decent speed?

Of course "brand new" models can be upgraded. Phones with year old tech, maybe not.

speaking of that, now I regret getting the LG Eve knowing what you have mentioned is most likely true. When I got the LG Eve, I was thinking it was a top of the line phone, has everything and more compared to other phones, and considering it's a "Smart-Phone" and the retail of the phone itself with-out contract is just as much as a Black-Berry or spend a little bit extra and get yourself an "I-Phone". Cause I'm actually disappointed with this phone. Battery life is crappy, and LG company won't acknowledge that, and now we're stuck with an crappy OS system. Don't get me wrong, the phone is not that bad, but as they say, "every little bit counts". And I was expecting alot more from this phone than it's actually worth.
