Amazon MP3 store

Any word on how to get rid of this worthless app
"amazon mp3 store" and the few others that keep turning on no matter how many times I kill them?

"My uploads" - whatever that is, "Voice Dialer" never works correctly anyway and "Messages" are the other ones.

Until Verizon makes Text messages free and or I feel the need to bother somebody with a few poorly typed text messages, instead of using the phone - I would like to get rid of this app that wont shut off!

If you are using a task killer, select those that you don't want running and place them on an auto kill list. Or don't run a task killer and the OS will close them itself.

I kill all these apps at least 20 times a day using quick system info and or advanced task manager. They do not stay killed!

As to your claim that the OS will kill these automatically. If that was the case, Which it is not, then what part of the phone (OS, hardware) etc.. Would you claim is STARTING them Automatically?

Iv'e said it before, there is to much misinformation spread on forums about Androids ability to manage apps.

Everyday on this forum and others, somebody claims Android can automatically turns off apps when they are not needed or in use. I have found this to be 100% inaccurate. Before I go to sleep I Kill all apps. And every morning when I wake up there are about a dozen apps and processes running.

No apps on my phone are set to auto update and or retrieve info with out manually refreshing them. And yet, the programs I never use - Amazon mp3, Messages, My uploads, Voice Dialer etc. will all turn on automatically and Android Never turns them off. This happens after I manually kill them and or force stop them. So much for the theory about Android being able to do this on it's own.

On a side note, the awake time of the phone has been fluctuating greatly. When I first installed 2.1, If i killed all the apps and put the phone to sleep, even after 8+ hours, the phone awake time would only change by about 1 minute. Now, it stays on all the time.

It seems the longer the phone is on with out a reboot, the less chance the phone has of going into true sleep mode. So one or more of these unwanted apps, that Android is claimed to be able to manage, is some how turning itself on and keeping the phone from sleeping. Which in turn is making my battery drain 25+% overnight when it should be sleeping. I have tetsed this leaving 3G on and off, even putting the phone in Airplane mode! and still the same outcome.

Any ideas would be appreciated

While the OS won't actually shut the processes down, it will put them into the background. This means they are there, but they aren't using much, if any, of your phone's memory.

Did you ever think that because you are constantly killing these apps that the phone just starts them up again that could be causing your battery to suffer and your awake time to increase? Stop killing them, because your phone is just going to restart them. Let them be, they will just sit there stirring, not taking up much of your memory and not draining your battery by keeping your phone awake to start them up again.

So you are confirming that Android, unlike what many here claim, can't manage the apps and shut them down. But it will, constantly start apps that you don't want and have disabled?

I have tested never shutting down apps as well as constantly shutting them down and the results are always the same.

After a reboot, if I do nothing the phone wont sleep at all because there are over a dozen apps that start when u turn on the phone and will Never shut down. Footprints, mp3store, messages, etc...
If I close them all the phone sleeps as it is supposed to. 8+ hours in sleep mode and the Awake time only increases about one minute. the problem comes from not rebooting at least once a day. After 24 hours the killed programs no longer stay killed and the phone no longer sleeps.

I have not encountered this problem at all. I reboot my phone much more often than others, it seems. I reboot about every other day. But the longest time I have gone without rebooting (48 hours, roughly), during that time I only ended certain apps that I have that don't shut down themselves and are not needed (Diet and Food Tracker, Reveal Reader, and a couple others). When it came time to recharge my phone at around 36 hours, my awake time was only around 7 hours, ( just under 20%).

The default apps (other than the Message app if you don't use something else as the default) have never kept my phone awake. If I have an awake time issue, it is because of an app that I have installed on my phone.

Are you using this ?

I've been all week with no task manager, and no reboot and my phone hasn't slowed down one bit. It's difficult to NOT look at whats running and your memory availability, but it's getting easier each day.......got addiction?

This System Panel looks like a nice clean app......but I'd be afraid I'd climb right back into that boat again and start randomly shutting things down, which IMO, will only start back up and therefore decrease battery life rather than just hanging out in the background.

I really wish they'd get this thing rooted so we could get rid of all this extra useless crApp.

No, I don't use system panel. The only reason I posted the is that the developer posted the info in the application section of the forum and I noticed that actually shows the status of apps that are running. Not sure if other apps show this or not. I just thought the op could use the info.

I don't use a task killer or system panel but there is a setting in every phone called "running services" no need for a separate app. I just put a shortcut on my screen, tap it, it shows your running apps and gives you an option of stopping them.

i used to have that problem with those stupid apps popping up all the time. it doesnt happen anymore..not sure if this is what did it or not(cuz i do too much too fast and dont pay too close attention) but, one thing i did do is go into each of these apps(mp3 store, footprints, etc.) and just unchecked everything under their menus. also, i dont sync with google. there always seems to be a connection with some stuff and gmail. like someone else said earlier, "its all about money". so someone else try it and see if it works for you..but they never pop up anymore for me..i once shared that same aggravation. believe me
