Root Okay, so I'm gonna work on a rom.

First let me admit that creating ROMs is not a part of my current knowledge base. I've only made a few apps thus far. In other words, I have zero experience in rom making lol.

However, I do read. A lot. I'm addicted to knowledge. After looking into it, I know I can do it. No it won't be a huge production like cyanogenmod I'm sure, but we all gotta start somewhere.

Wish me luck lol.

Minimalism is the key

I wouldn't mind a cooked tar ball with a better battery icon. One that turns red at 25%.

As far as the rom goes...

A deodex of system apps would allow for an easier backup/restore process if someone decides they want the app back.

Pre set SD read/write speed to 2048mbps to improve media scan time on large SD cards.

Stock launcher that allows shortcuts.

Flashlight option/shortcut

Removal of boot sound or anything but what it is now.

Phandroid app pre installed.

Just some ideas.

i am in teh irc if you need any help :)

but overall as far as teh sdcard goes, thats part of teh kernel, you can use an app to increase it however...

Yep, you know I'm sure to be bothering you lol.

I've started with a few cosmetic changes so far. I don't think I want to go all insane with it though.

The boot animation is in a Samsung proprietary format, in not exactly sure how I'm going to change it yet, its not a zip like other androids. Playing with that now. Deodexing tonight.

I will probably put out a couple of packages for people to check out as I'm doing this so I can get input as to what changes to make.

Yes, with the admire.

Well, in the mean time I have found a rather extensive list of Samsung qmg files. So far I have tested the boot animations from the Droid Charge and the fascinate, both work without a hitch, power on sound changed without a problem also, but that wasn't expected to be difficult, it's just a wav file.

So you've managed to change the boot animations on the attain???

Is there a site with a list I can go through? Link maybe??

http://www.nubecoder.com/files/android/SPH-D700/bootani-qmg/

Here's some. I have more but I don't have the link on my phone. They don't all work the way they are, it takes some tweaking to make some of them work with our screen size.

Remember to change the stock files to .bak before you move the new qmgs to system/media. Bootani.qmg is is the new animation, rename it to bootsamsung.qmg. bootsamsungloop.qmg can be moved over without renaming.

On the admire there was boot animation support before any kernels were made. Just my 2 cents. Its time for me to get this phone lol.

Yes its time for you to get it so you can port miui to this also. Lol. But, with the admire it was a bin file named play logo that was modified to allow boot animations. Unfortunately, we don't have that same file inside the bin folder. So we need to find something different, honestly I don't think we need any kernel work until somebody builds a cm7. I've been stressing cwm a lot because I believe Odin after so many uses, will put this ugly stain on the boot up letting you provider know your doing shit you not supposed to do. What should be next for us? A stock prerooted and unrooted tar for Odin, cwm, then kernel tweaks. I think this phone performs quite well. That's just my opinion though

I love it. Its pretty cool stock (debloated that is) fast, snappy and feels great all around. I feel they built the framework pretty cheaply though. Its a mix of aosp with touchwiz, no biggie though. I just really dislike the stock gb battery icon. Throws off the tw feel
