Don't put anything else in the same pocket as the Eris and always make sure to lock the phone before putting it in your pocket. I've gotten into the habit of always locking the phone whenever I'm done with it. I'm going to wear out the power (red) button.
I know there's an app that auto closes the dialer when your call ends and reverts back to the default home.. I just can't remember the name of the app!! Been Googling for like 10 mins and still can't find it, sorry :/

It's called "Not Call Log", and it's awesome. Kind of a dumb name though. I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my previous post. I've been using it for months.

Not Call Log consumes insignificant resources. I mean literally Android says it's consuming 0 KB RAM and uses 0% CPU. And it obviously only does something when you hang up a call, all other times it does nothing. Unless you're talking about flash memory, of which it only takes up 56 KB, which is relatively nothing.

I simply use the hard keys on the bottom of the phone to send and end, and i never have problems with redialing by accident. Then press "home" when done with your calls.
I also switch to home instead of the Sense UI when i put it in my pocket, because it removes the central "phone" touchscreen key in case my phone gets unlocked somehow in my pocket.
