I think you got lucky, they change it at midnight pacific time, hense 3:00AM here on the East Coast. You must have snuck in just under the wire.
Thanks Pup, I did not know that. It's a nice little app, but 9.99 <{

I'm not sure this would be helpful. I think there is a percentage of energy loss each time you change the state of energy (discharge / charge) so you may be lowering the overall life of the battery. The phone would need to run constantly on the reserve which would continuously be charged by the battery. Like adding a UPS to your PC. And since the GNex powers on in like ~30 seconds, I'd rather get 13 hours out of a charge than 10 with hot swap. Just my thoughts, I have no science to back it up though.
Morning BB, and the rest of you nexicans. I have 6 yards of mulch to spread this weekend.
But if the reserve was hard-wired in, how bad could the losses be? Do you think it would really be 20-30%? I am not edumacated in the world of power transfer losses.

This is a before pic for those who don't remember his beautiful hair!:

Wow, that seems like such a busy weekend! I love Six Flag. I've been to two (Ohio and Texas).Good morning everyone! TGIF! (Sorry - I know some of you have to work tomorrow and you have my sincere sympathies).
Anyone doing anything good this weekend? I have to go get my daughter's and my passports renewed in the last name we all have now, then my parents surprised me by saying they got season tickets to Six Flags this year (it DOES pay to still live with your parents more often than not) so we are headed down to Jackson NJ to get that taken care of. Sunday is movie day! Taking Ann (my daughter) to see Chimpanzee and then headed to see The Lucky One in the afternoon. Maybe I'll even splurge and see The Hunger Games.
I'm pretty sure there would be a way to make it to where the power switches to the backup when you pull the battery or heck, even add a hotswap button in the OS to switch to reserve and then switch back once the battery is in like mounting and unmounting SD card. That way the power wouldn't have to run through the reserve all the time and as soon as a regular battery is put back in, you would use that to re-charge the reserve. I think it's a great idea and should be implemented.
I think it would probable be easier to implement two batteries. Instead of an 1,800mA main and 100mA reserve for hotswapping, why not two 1000mA batteries with switching between them.
I'm not an electrical engineer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
I was reading something about Google converting their data centers to DC power from AC and it explained it well enough for me to get a basic understanding. It was some time ago, though, or I would link to it. I seem to remember that it was pretty significant. It's sort of along the lines of the perpetual motions machine and why one truly doesn't exist.

Today is colder than I thought. I did not dress appropriately (yet again). I think I'm slowly getting sick. Stupid weather
Yeah I was thinking about a hotswap app type implementation. As far as power switching, I am not sure how long phones can go without power without resetting, if the switching mechanism is fast enough to prevent a power-off.
With the frequency our phones run at, pretty much any instantaneous loss of power would shut them off. You can get around that sometimes by adding capacitors in the circuit after the switch so there would be a little residual energy left in the caps while the switch goes to the reserve.
You must wear skimpy clothes...
That is what I was afraid of, and why I think the main battery would have to run through the reserve at all times. I think the solution would be the battery monitor reports the charge in the main battery, and shuts the phone off once it discharges to the minimum voltage like always. However there is an option to ignore the main battery and use the reserve battery for short periods to swap batteries, or make an emergency phone call.
My outfit during the week is more 'skimpy', as I predominately wear skirts and dresses to work Mon-Thr. Friday is jeans day I just have a leather jacket on and not anything heavier for a 45F temperature
Every day is jeans day here
I hate jeans, they are either too rough or too tight. I can only tolerate one day for jeans during the work week, lol.
Say it isnt so??!!!!I hate jeans, they are either too rough or too tight. I can only tolerate one day for jeans during the work week, lol.
My jeans are comfortable. I like the ones that are more fitted and have some elastic to them.I guess I would feel the same if I was a woman. Men's jeans are comfortable.

but wish I really did have an interview lately. Jeez. Job searching sucks!!! /rant
