Hello,
I just got a Atrix 4G and rooted it. Now I want to overclock it so it will perform better on my Laptop Dock. To do that I guess I need to install a kernel mod, or install a ROM.
So, if I install a new ROM does it wipe out all my apps and phone settings? Will I still be able to dock my Atrix on it's laptop dock?

Hi there, congrats on the new Atrix.
first, have you unlocked the bootloader yet? if not, then you will want to do that, as i believe all roms require the bootloader to be unlocked.
As far as gingerbread roms go, Neutrino Romv2.7 located here:

is THE most stable and best custom rom with a Cyanogen Mod base.

If you like motoblur, then Nottach has probably the best custom blur rom out there, i believe it's the final version. it also has webtop over hdmi, meaning you can simply use the hdmi cable provided with the device and plug it into any hdmi display and once toggled in the settings, it will display the webtop on the display instead of having to use the lapdock. it can be found here:

most roms for the atrix don't support webtop...as in if you put it on the dock, nothing will happen.
but that's why you would flash a blur based rom if you want to use your lapdock.
yes it will wipe everything, but if you use titanium backup which can be downloaded from the play store, you can backup all your user apps as well as the saved data and then flash the rom, then restore all your apps back to their original state once you've rebooted.

oh by the way, if you use titanium backup (which you should because it's what 99% of root users use) don't backup system settings or system apps because if you start flashing from rom to rom, if you restore the system settings, all kinds of shit will go wrong because those are settings meant for the previous rom you were on. so just backup user apps.
