what is next for the StarGate franchise??

SGU was too dark at a time when people didn't want dark. It may have been a success a few years earlier as a companion series.

Pasrafarian is right, the irreverent male lead role was getting a bit worn and long in the tooth although I think the casting of Ben Browder fresh off Farscape was a stroke of genius, the similarities in the roles were to many to pass up.

I loved me some SGU. It was a very well made series, but it just couldn't live up to the live viewership of SG-1 and Atlantis. And I think it cost something like $20 million per season.

I don't think this is the last that we'll see of Stargate. MGM finally has its affairs in order. They're getting James Bond back on track. And other than James Bond, Stargate is one of its biggest all time money makers (it might be the most after JB). There's already a story and a fanbase, so there's definitely more money to be made on it.

But I do think that it will take a few years before something happens. And I think it's quite likely that it will be a reboot. They could do what they did with Star Trek, with Spock going back in time and changing the timeline. But with ST just having done that, plus as many times as they did this in all three series of Stargate with them being able to repair the altered timeline fairly easily each time-- I don't think they'd do that. So my gut goes with a complete reboot. I think that as far as Earth's technology had advanced in the series, it would be hard to pick it back up without doing something like what they did with SGU. BUT, I think it would be weird if they started from the very beginning, like from the original Stargate motion picture time. So maybe start some time a little after the Stargate is discovered.

And I'm gonna say no sooner than four years, but within ten years. That's just my opinion. Until then, we've got a few hundred episodes to watch between the three series. :) And yes, I'm a bit obsessed with the show. ;)

We also have the issue of SiFi now moving away from science fiction oriented program to reality shows. There is only one new sci fi show slated for the next 2-4 years!

True. Which show is that? I know that Eureka is ending. I've never watched it, but I might if it's on Netflix. I think BSG Blood and Chrome isn't happening any more. I've really enjoyed Sanctuary (with SG's Amanda Tapping). It's kind of a mix between scifi and fantasy, but it's quite good. Special effects are lacking at times, but they operate on a fraction of what similar special effects heavy shows cost. But they haven't said if it's getting picked back up. So yeah, I'm not even sure which show you're talking about. lol.

I've also enjoyed watching shows that SG actors move on to. Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) and Erica Durance (Louis from Smallville-- also Teal'c's apartment neighbor in that one episode on SG1) have a show called Saving Hope coming out soon. I think on NBC. They're married and both doctors, and he's in an accident and in a coma, but his spirit walks around the hospital. It could be good.

And I've REALLY been enjoying ABC's Once Upon a Time. Robert Carlyle (Dr. Rush) is a star and Tony Amendola (Bra'Tak.. sp?) is a supporting actor. It's fantasy, but you could stretch it and say there's some slight scifi themes going on in it.

Can't find it now, I'll keep looking.

Love the Goa'uld and Jafa names, came up with good ones like Sim'ilac! Can't remember the others but sometime around midnight tomorrow they will pop into my head.

Sanctuary started out good.. last season was dull.. and lost my attention.

Once Upon a time is interesting how they re-write all the old stories... Red-riding hood is a were-wolf!!!! LOL

A sexy werewolf at that! ;)

Hahahaha. Sim'ilac! Nice.

Sounds like there's some kind of mobile game app being developed:

GateWorld Is MGM about to revive Stargate SG-1?

And I did forget to mention that Michael Shanks and Claudia Black (Vala) will be voicing their characters in an upcoming... I guess you'd call it audio book.

Also, Amanda Tapping will be directing some episodes of Primeval: New World. It's the Canadian/ American spinoff to the UK series Primeval, which I've enjoyed. Hopefully Syfy picks up the new one.

And of course, David Hewlett has his Youtube channel thing going on. Some of its kind of funny.
