Mobile phones direct (UK)?

I have ordered my white Hero through them with a T-Mobile contract for 30 pounds/month Combi plan, 300 minutes, 300 texts, unlimited web (fair usage applies). Its on an 18 month contract.
They have said that it will ship on Monday for Tuesday arrival, so I'm very excited. They have black and white versions and you can get contracts through T-Mobile and Vodafone. Shipping is quoted as next day air mail. I switched my phone number over so it took 2 extra days to do that, which I find pretty lame, but is probably a carrier issue.
As long as the unlocked white version of the phone is not buggy or gimped (crosses fingers, otherwise its going back) I don't see why everyone would not order through them to get cheaper contracts, choice of black or white, and choice of different carriers.
I will post again when I receive my phone!

Just to warn you guys, I'm not having a great time with MPD.

I ordered my Hero (G2 Touch - T-Mob) on Thursday, and on Sunday I got an email saying my order had been canceled. :(

I ordered again last night, double checking all my details but I'm sure it wasn't my problem - for some reason I don't think they wanted to fulfill my order.

I'll let you know how I get on, but despite the website plastering "next day delivery" all over the place, I think this might be a struggle.

I can say that they are slow though ... I ordered the Hero on Saturday. They say that they do next day shipping for any items ordered before 4PM. It's Moday now, 3:30PM and they are currently on "pending PAC" even though I gave them my PAC code with my order and sent it to them about 1 minute after they requested it off me today. I have tried calling, but I always get to voicemail and they haven't contacted me.

I have the feeling that they are understaffed. I am going to be mighty pissed if they don't ship it today and it doesn't get here by tomorrow. I'll definitely be wanting a refund on my "next day shipping".

I'd suggest waiting until you get your Hero before complaining about postage times. I too think they're understaffed and I wouldn't be surprised if your order 'went missing' if you make things difficult for them :(
I have serious reservations about whether a professional organisation would do such a thing just to spite the customer. I still haven't heard from them yet though and I am still on "Pending PAC" although they have had plenty of time to deal with the issue. I must say that I am pretty disappointed at this point in time. Hopefully that will wear off once my Hero actually gets here ...

Hi Guys,

I was just trawling the net and found this forum. I'm also experiencing difficulties with MPD. I ordered a HTC Diamond2 as a Tmobile renewal from them yesterday morning on next day delivery. Postie has been and gone without a telephone in hand, and they're not responding to either emails or calls (straight to VM) to find out whats happening. I've had order confirmation, but no confirmation on shipping either.

I did lots of research on the company beforehand and they had lots of good reviews, so something seems to be going wrong somwhere.

I'll be back as soon as I get any further information.

Just an update after sending them an EMail and leaving a VM, I spoke to ?Paul? in the Basingstoke store. He advised that they came in to 100 orders this morning and there's only 6 of them. He also said to Email them or ring them, which I've already done.. :thinking:

Interestingly, I've also tried ringing the Southampton Store (same address as the online store) and that just rings out.

So I'm hoping that it will eventually filter through the system, but im considering if I get to talk to them, just cancelling the order and going to Expansys - pretty poor show so far!

Yeah, I got an email from them telling me that they were understaffed at the moment. They need to employ some more people in my opinion. They promise next day delivery and then fail to deliver (sorry for the bad pun). All the research I found on the net previously seemed to be good. Perhaps they are being swamped by Hero orders, as they do seem to have a real sweet deal going and just weren't expecting it?

If it arrives tomorrow and everything works fine I might forgive them ...

Aye, thats the number. I tried a couple of other stores before I managed to get hold of the one in Basingstoke too, all just ringing out or VM.

So, it looks like they're on a 3 day turn around at the moment! Crazy!
My order's stuck at 'New' at present. Perhaps they should withdraw the offer until they can fulfill the current order.

Well, there you go - an email confirmation that the order has been shipped. Disappointing that they've had a bit of a laissez-faire attitude to the order, especially given the excellent reviews I've heard elsewhere, but at least its on its way - I hope the rest of you manage to get your phones soon enough...

Now, just got to wait until someone ports Android to the TD2 then I can join in your forums with much vigor! :D

White HTC Hero on 12 month (yay) T-Mobile contract ordered yesterday (3rd) @ 10.30am.

No delivery today (4th) and the order is showing as "New (Contract)" which seems to mean the order hasn't been processed at all. I'm not even porting a number and my credit rating is good.

Be interesting to see if there's any movement tomorrow, just sent them a mail asking for an update.

I'm hoping they're just busy which is fair enough, I just wish they (and others) wouldn't 'guarantee' things they can't deliver, if they just said "1-n working days" I wouldn't be worried. Apart from anything else the word "guarantee" here is meaningless.

Can anyone who's got their hero comment on what it's like in the real world? Just so I can get a fix while waiting (there's nothing worse than waiting for a new toy).

Got an email saying it dispatched this morning (5th) which is great :D, although I guess it may not actually arrive 'till tomorrow.

So I if you don't expect the promised next day delivery then it would seem MPD are fine, certainly everything I've read suggests they are a good company to deal with and their prices are certainly competitive.

I received my phone yesterday. My number will be ported to Vodafone today. It is a bit annoying to have a phone that can't do anything when it's outside of wifi ... anyhow. It's a great piece of hardware. Absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. I have found plenty of bugs though and hope that HTC get round to releasing some firmware in the next few weeks.

BTW: Call the network your number is supposed to be ported to - just to make sure ;-) Vodafone sounded slightly surprised when I asked them when my number was to be ported ... but they had all my details so it was fine :)

Did any of you guys order a Tmobile G2 Touch in stead of the white Hero?

Both my orders were for G2 Touch's and both were cancelled. :mad:

Emailed them twice, rang twice, left two messages and still nothing.

Given up and ordered from another website, currently progressing through the stages with email updates at each points - much much better service. :)
