doubleTwist update: podcasts!

A new update came out yesterday for doubleTwist that allows podcasts to be downloaded and sync'd just like on the iPod/iPhones. And not just audio podcasts like Google's app, you also get video podcasts as well! Though it does seem like it takes awhile to sync them, it is a way cool addition that makes doubleTwist closer to that all-inclusive experience that iTunes gives with all the different media.

You can do that with or without the update. Doubletwist treats podcasts just like they are songs. All you do is refresh your subscription in iTunes, and then open Doubletwist and import the podcast downloads from your downloads folder right into Doubletwist. Then all you do is mount your Droid and sync. It works every single time. This is how I've been syncing my Rush Limbaugh podcasts to my Droid.

The new update will be even handier though.

I really don't see what all the excitement is all about with this update. Honestly one thing I have always hated is having to plug my media device into a machine and wait to sync podcasts. Eventually I always forget to do it for a while and then I am left with a bunch of old podcasts. One of my favorite features of the Droid/Android is the multiple applications in the marketplace that will automatically download podcasts directly onto the phone for you.

Two other options, one free:

1. Google Listen. Free. Does the job. I dropped it because it tended to run 24 hours behind on updating podcasts but I understand that the latest version corrected this delay problem.

2. DoggCatcher. This is a paid app but I have been very happy with it. Lots of features, frequent updates and upgrades, and excellent support from the developer -- who frequents and often contributes to this forum. Highly recommended.

Yeah, but I'll bet DT doesn't censor podcasts like iTunes does ;)

I never knew of any real good apps. Google listen is out there but I prefer video podcasts. I see a couple listed in this thread that I'll check out for sure. As long as they format the video podcasts to take advantage of the Droid screen size (DT does this when it syncs) then I may just have to try it out. If they provide a smaller, safe-for-any-android-device screen size, then they already lose.

BeyondPod

I've used it for a few months with the Droid. Great app. You can use a free version (and checkout the Pro features for a short time), but the extra features of the paid version, IMO, are well worth the money.

This one will take some time to figure out. Very confusing and unintuitive but looks like it could be pretty powerful. On the surface it looks like nothing more than an RSS Reader which is nice but the podcasts and setting up to get new ones is confusing as hell!

I've primarily used beyondpod and I will agree with the above poster that the UI is a bit confusing - however it's a fairly feature rich program. I have however switched to using just Listen since all I do is audio podcasts and I feel the interface is a little bit quicker to use for things like switching while driving etc (I know it's bad for my health).
