Help Rollback from ICS?

Okay I'm one day in with ICS & am hating it. Apps freeze, take longer to load & as for the opinions I've seen about being more responsive got to say I'm not seeing it.

The way I see it at the moment I have 3 choices

1. Rollback to previous version that had issues but worked (main aim of this thread to see if that's at all possible).

2. ROOT I didn't see the need to root it but if that makes it usable again, its an option.

3. Hate to say it but go Apple iPad (gulp sits back & awaits the abuse this usually brings)

Any help appreciated, please save me from being another sheep.

Today was a "geek Christmas" for me, I got ICS on the A500 and my work-provided iPad was delivered. In the 2 hours I've played with the iPad so far, I'd MUCH rather have my A500 with ICS than the iPad. Of course, I've had the A500 much longer but somehow things seem more intuitive (and I HAVE been dabbling some in iOS from having to support it). I know I'll form more of an opinion tomorrow as I use it more.

I haven't got the update, but in saying that, I'm pretty sure that the problem with the update you have is acer related (bloatware stuff), and app related (dev hasn't compiled the app for ics).

don't fret, once your warranty runs out that's when you root the device and take control.

as for roll back, I wouldn't go there. I would rather wait for the full not beta version of the rooted ics and stick that in my a500.

ill keep watch on this post to see if there is a solution for this.

I was reading somewhere that they already did a mini patch to fix some of the issues with the ics update..... don't quote me on that, its just what I was reading somewhere and I can't find the link anymore....


oh, I almost forgot to comment on that apple thing you were mentioning:

as for the apple cheering its completely up to you.....

I mean, there are people that like all of that self abuse and that kind of fetish stuff. I wouldn't say it been like a sheep at all. I'm sure that there is a website for that somewhere. maby you might see a sheep there but I can't guarantee that you would want to see what they do with that apple.

p1r4te, some of Acer's "bloatware" was actually left out, and the stuff that was left in can be disabled.

I got my update yesterday and now every time it connects to wireless (any wireless) it reboots. I can't even use it. Suggestions?

So no rollback as yet, no rooting until Xmas, suffer or iSuffer that seems to be the question.

Am thankful mine at least works (albeit badly) unlike bean8378 hope you get some help.

@mplevy you mentioned bloatware being disabled, (noob question coming) how?

Have either of you done a Pin Hole Reset?

If so and that didn't work then try a Factory Reset

I received the update yesterday and everything is working great as it was with Honeycomb

Factory reset could be the answer I could just refuse the ICS next time round but again either or both will lose any retained data I suspect, case of weighing up the amount of time it'd take to do, but would rather have a machine that doesn't freeze all the time.

Pinhole reset does not work. I have so many issues with the ICS update I cannot understand why Acer released it. It seems to me to be completely irresponsible. I am like you... I want to roll back to Honeycomb!!!

Issues I have on my end:

- Apps are unstable (they flash rapidly and then crash), including Gmail which I cannot use at all (I have tried to uninstall and reinstall... but the same issues continue).

- I have also tried to use the new folder option, but here also, suddenly the folders start to flash before the whole thing crashes leaving only the wallpaper and not option to restart the whole tablet.

- Like many other persons, my wifi is also unstable. It fails to connect when I arrive home (it used to before), once connected, it disconnects and does not connect back automatically.

- Latest issue: When I ask the tablet to check for new updates, it says that wifi is too low... when the tablet also indicates that the signal is strong... and I am just by the wireless router.

I have tried to obtain help from Acer, but they are not really helpful. They only suggest to wait for an update, but do not seem to have an idea on when this might be. Plus, since the update process is no longer working on my tablet, this is hopeless.

mremixer, I don't believe the pinhole reset will not delete any data, it just does a device reset (think reboot on your PC). Doing ANY kind of reset will not revert you back to Honeycomb. Once ICS is installed it will require rooting or possibly a HC update file and do a manual flash.

To disable the "bloatware", go into settings then Apps then tap All. On that list, tap the "bloatware" you wish to disable then tap Disable. It will disappear from the app list and move to the bottom of the app management list (so you can enable it again if you wish).

@mplevy ah yes (kinda doh) I get you now, so may be forced to root before warranty's up, hmm many things to consider here.

Am actually contemplating returning it, still got receipt n box etc but the way it currently is its of little use than a brick & thanks to ebookof no point getting in touch with Acer to just be told wait for ANOTHER update.

I understand "hiccups" occur & the reason for updates are to fix things but all this seems to have done is make things worse at the expense of a few aesthetics, at the moment I wouldn't pay

I got the update yesterday and immediately was sorry. My machine became totally unstable and nothing is working the way it did before the update. I fear I will have to do a factory reset and redo everythng I have. I use the machine as my GPS for in my truck. I'm an over the road driver here in the states. My wifi is unstable and my map program doesent respond to the touch screen. It opened to the map I had open before the update and there is where it's froze. I tried to reinstall it but only made things worse. Good luch to those who have had it work for them. Myself. I'll return ro the Gingerbread version where it was stable.

UPDATE!!!!
Pin hole reset doesn't help! D a factory reset and it doesn't go back to Gingerbread, it just wipes your drive of everything you have and resets the setting so ICS is the OS now. They have removed all the Widgets and you can't tap the middle of the screen any more to add widgets, and if you remove the Clockj that is installd at the update you can't get any other widget to install. I got my Co Pilot map program working now but it's not nearly as stable as it was. I'm in contact with the folks at ALK as I was a beta tester with them when the tablet was first released and Co Pilot didn't work at all. I have found that the GPS is a bit better WHEN it's working. Will let y'all know what I hear back from them. The WIFI has issues and a few other glitches. I'm hpoping Acer realizes they made bricks of some of the machines. Kinda reminds me of the earlier update that killed so many WIF 's on so many machines.

BTW, I wouldn't go with iPad if it was the only pad out there. My flubed up A 500 is still twice the machine that iPad is, problems and all!

Just wondering, if you haven't been following am new to android & forums (not to technology thank god), would it be worth actually reporting these issues to Acer?

From what I've read around the net they are not very forthcoming usually so wondered what people here thought?

I never asked for it kinda heard a whisper it was coming sometime BUT as I was kinda new to android the update hit me out of the blue, which is why I joined here for help & advice.

So have to ask then coz most forums have at least one, but are you the member thats generally referred to as As s hole? @wisenos

Just to let you know that a factory reset solves some things, but not everything. Overall, it is still much more stable after the factory reset. Here is what has been solved on my end and the issues that still remain:

Seems to be solved:
- Unstable applications (flashing and crashing, including Gmail).
- Unstable folders (flashing, crashing and all icons on the desktop disappearing).

Unsolved:
- Wifi is unstable and does not auto-connect (I have to connect manually when I restart the tablet or when I get home... it was working fine before ICS).
- The GPS does not work (I am not sure if it was working before ICS... as I had not had the time to test, so maybe it is not new).
- System update does not work (indicates that network coverage is insufficient despite the signal being strong and staying beside the wireless router).

I contacted again Acer and this time, instead of telling me to wait for an update, I was asked to contact 2nd level technical support during working hours. It seems they start to take things more seriously.

You might try what I did. When I saw the update come through, I did a factory reset first and then downloaded and installed ics. I haven't had any issues with mine, no crashes or reboots. It's running smooth as butter. I don't think their update/upgrade process always works perfectly.

Start with a factory reset and see if that helps.

I did the update to ICS and have had NO problems whatsoever. Pretty wild that so many people are having issues, as mine is smooth as glass and it's very cool. All apps and everythign work flawlessly so far. I have never rooted or anything, all factory updates as soon as they were available, for reference.
