Different Apps Yield different Reception

I drive around town listening to Pandora on my my EVO 4G plugged into the car stereo and the results are pretty good. For me and here. If it goes off it usually comes back on. But, others such as ESPN or WBGO go off if I seemingly go under a big tree and often if I go under a freeway underpass. And they don't come back on by themselves. Why is that given it is the same Sprint network, local, phone , etc. It is same signal power and tower direction.

yeah, i am going to +1 to buffering. as an example, i also use pandora from time to time. very little buffering but long delays if signal loss. i also use tune in radio and have it set for 30 buffer so it takes longer to load, but i get very few interuptions. lastly, i just started to use jango (minimal to no ads) and have very few issues there. i think all three are also set at 64k

it also think it may have to do with the sound quality. if you are streaming at say 64k, then you should not have to many problems. when you get up to 128, 190, etc...that's when you may notice network lag and buffering.

buffering, why didn't I think of that. I also use Tune In, but have never used it in car. I'll try that and I set it to 30, too. I don't know if Pandora is 128k, it just says "High Quality". I suppose that would indeed be 128. It's the ESPN Sports radios that bother me the most. 710 Seattle has a very poor setup as opposed to 1080 Portland. Someone in Portland actually "gets" it. But Portland, of course, focuses on Portland teams. Thanks

if you have your MSL you can enter into the device's programming and remove the proxy servers sprint has in place for buffering. if you have an app that uses its own server to buffer (youtube, etc) and its going thru ANOTHER server (sprints), this can cause delays also.

How would you go about doing that??? I have been having problems with rapidshare for that very reason

Go to dialer
Enter ##3282#
Select Multimedia
Enter MSL
Change RTSP Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
RTSP Proxy Port to 0
HTTPPD Proxy Address to 0.0.0.0
HTTPPD Proxy Port to 0

You get your MSL by using a terminal emulator like Connectbot.
Type getprop and look for ril.MSL

Or call Sprint and hope they don't hassle you.

This is how it works on the Samsung Moment, anyway. Don't know if the dialer code would be different for you.
