Any update on release date?

Best Buy has it on the front page of their ad for next Sunday.

Best Buy has it for $499, but most stores don't actually have stock. We just got ours for $399 at Fry's. Love this thing! Just having problems finding the right screen protector. It *must* be for TF300 as the other protectors for previous models Transformer don't fit.

$499? Best Buy has the $379 16GB version in stores, and by all accounts, most stores have a large number in stock. I don't believe any Best Buy stores are currently stocking the $399 32GB. But the TF300 doesn't sell for $499 anywhere (unless it's a third party jacking up the price). You probably saw the Prime at $499, which most stores don't have in stock.

Do you think there's that much of a difference in the screen brightness that it would be a big deal? I saw a review online saying that the screen on the Prime is much better. Is it $100 better or just personal preference?

There's a big difference in screen brightness. The Prime gets significantly brighter than the TF300, nearly twice as bright. But the only time that will matter is if you're trying to use it outside. Indoors, unless you like your retinas burned out, the two will be very similar. Using it inside, I don't remember my Prime looking any better than my TF300.

Does anyone know what stores will be stocking the 300, I would rather pick it up in person in case I do not like it and want to do a return. Thanks guys.

I picked mine up at a local Fry's (Concord, Ca) on April 30th. Their website indicated that they had available stock at most SF Bay Area stores. They had none on display on Monday. So I didn't get to touch or feel it--but that wasn't a showstopper for me. 32 gig was 399 plus tax, CA recycling fee of $6. Like it fine. GPS and WI-FI seem good.

The only problem we're having is finding a screen protector. We both bought the tablets, but Fry's had only one screen protector. We thought we could find one elsewhere..... wrong! There are plenty for the earlier versions but none for our TF300. The difference is slight, so we're making do with the wrong one until we find the correct one. Meanwhile the film has a bubble all around the edges. So if you get the TF300, be sure your screen protector is the right one. They're very expensive for a simple piece of plastic film.

Check Amazon ... they have a few screen protectors... I think I saw 1 for 3.99...

Not that I would know for sure, but with the Toshiba ones you can pop the rear cover off and swap it out with a different color. I'm guessing you could do the same with the 300.

No, they're not designed to do that. The back cover is not made to be removed or to be user replaceable. The Toshiba Thrive has been the only full-fledged Android tablet from a major manufacturer to have that option, and from the looks of things, it will probably be the last.

And even if you did pry the back cover off the TF300 and had one of another color to put on, you'd have two different colors on the device - one around the edge, and one on the back - due to the way it's made. Some might like that, most probably wouldn't. Either way, it doesn't matter since it's not designed to be user replaceable.

That's right, I forgot the surround was colored too. My bad. That does kinda suck that it isnt user replaceable, but I guess that's so they can tell if you dropped it and broke it all to pieces.
