Hi.

Can anyone give me their feedback or suggestions on which apps I can use for my needs. I use my BH2 for both business and pleasure lol...

1. Email client. I need to be able to connect to 2 email servers, one is via activesync (exchange) and the other syncml. I need to be able to sync the contacts and calendar at least.

2. Handcent or chompsms? I tried chompsms but I got FC one or twice. Which is better and why?

3. Music Player? I haven't found anything yet that I can use that also has a widget that can display an album art or something 4x4.

4. Navigation. I can't find a good free one. Nav4All no longer works :(

5. How can I transfer my dvds to my phone? What do you guys use?

6. Which Home UI? GDE or stick with Advanced Launcher that comes with the new ROM.

7. Document viewer/editor. Something that can open and edit word docs and excel. I had documents to go in my P1i and not too overly impressed with it.

8. SSH and RDP clients. Need this when I'm on the road. I hate bringing my mac all the time lol

9. voip or sip client. I have my own voip server that i'd like to use on my phone since BH2 is not UMA. Or has anyone gotten UMA to work?

And any other app you guys would suggest. Right now I bought or downloaded the ff: Dolphin plus, GDE (not sure if I should keep using this lol), Clock with weather widget, K9 Mail (nice although it cannot sync my contacts).

Thanks and please keep em coming. I'm sure others will find this thread useful.

I use K9 for email, but I don't think it has sync, I think you need Touchdown to sync.

I use Handcent, I like how I can customize notification per sender and also select colors for received sms per sender. Plus great support and never had problems.

Waze is free, but not for everyone. They are building maps via crowd sourcing, so its fun to use.

Try Fring, its a simple SIP client.

- Tunewiki
4. 7. Document viewer/editor. Something that can open and edit word docs and excel. I had documents to go in my P1i and not too overly impressed with it.
- Document To Go

- I personally think the Advanced Launcher is goo enough, no laggy. If you still want to replace it, try Open Home.

RE SIP:

Fring is good, but you can only dial from your contacts. To get around it just click a contact, edit the number and dial (it wont save the number changed).
The only other problem I have with fring is there's no gain controls for the mic.

Sipdroid is better, and can even integrate with the dialer. It has gain controls too.

Another problem that every client i've tried has is, they dont change the sleep policy. That means as soon as the screen turns off, the processor drops speed. This usually gives you choppy audio. If you leave the screen on they work great.

i tried touchdown and they have a whole interface for everything, calendar, contacts, email....does the contact sync with BH2 stock contacts?

I think that the only thing that you can do with them so it can be in the phone is to export the contacts to it.

When you are in the options menu, I guess (if my memory serves me well) they have an option (if you press the menu key) that will indicate something about that.

Let me know if this helps

For the auto rotate issue I don't think there is a fix within advanced launcher. I use gde, you can turn off the phones native auto rotate and turn on auto rotate in gde. Your home screens won't rotate and apps will.

Handcent is the first sms app I tried. I have been so happy with it I haven't bothered trying anything else.

For music I use the 3 player. It has three widget sizes and can download album art or use a user specified image. If you have a stereo bt headset it catches button presses so you can control it from the headset. Search for rockon in the market.

No, it doesn't. It only turn off homescreen rotate.

I meant the advanced launcher. it's tied to handcent auto rotate. I can switch to GDE since I bought it already, but I'm concerned if GDE is slower than advance launcher and uses more resources. Hence I stuck to advance launcher...but with handcent auto rotate tied to advance launcher, I might not have a choice but go back to gde.

thanks

there are two different things in BH_MAN stock rom:
1. you pull up the menu=> go to setting icon ( or press the menu button => setting), you can turn on or of the orientation for everything, include homescreen.
2. you press the menu button=> more=>extended=>sensor based orientation: you can turn on or off only homescreen rotation.

hey sorry for a very late follow up on this thread...

anyway, loving y BH2 more and more....I think I've got most figured out, using BH_MANs 1.6 galaxy R7 rom.

Now only thing I can't figure out is how I can sync my contacts via syncML. I ditched my exchange/activesync server and switched to syncML. any suggestion? The one I keep finding is funambol which only works for android 2.x.

Any suggestion? syncML is the only thing missing on my phone.

Found this in a search, but I don't think it is available for 1.5:
