*Rezound ICS OTA is live Thread*

Well, it's not looking good for today:
Another ICS build for the HTC Rezound 4G gets leaked | Technology Bloom News

That article had some info I hadn't come across before:
...flashing this leaked ICS build will remove the hidden menu of the HTC Rezound 4G which a user can access by dialling *#*#4636#*#*. With this hidden menu wiped out, the HTC Rezound 4G can no longer be used with other carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T so if you happen to stray to the networks of the said wireless providers, you might want to stay away from this particular leaked build of any official ICS update for the handset.

So what would be the fix if you're in a bootloop?

Well, this is very disappointing. Aside from having read multiple sources "confirming" the recent date, I also noted that in the past few days, a LOT of my apps have gotten updates - which I thought might have been in preparation for ICS. Plus, last night I couldn't even connect to the update site - another false alarm that made me think that perhaps it was overloaded with current updates.

At 6 months plus, I'm really surprised this is taking so long.

No, you would have seen most apps updated after the release of the new OS version. There are so many Android phones out there, I doubt they would have made any Rezound-specific changes.

That was my first question. Maybe, along with removing the string, they also removed all options from that dropdown except for CDMA auto, CDMA + LTE, and airplane mode. The only reason it went into botlooping is it got stuck on WCDMA, couldn't find a signal, and started bootlooping. If they removed the other non-Verizon options, we might not see the bootlooping occur. If it doesn't, we're screwed.

If they do remove the string, does that also mean we can't switch from CDMA+LTE to CDMA auto, cuz that's what I do most of the time to save battery since I'm not normally in an LTE covered area. If the string is removed, they'd better at least offer a 4G toggle that works with Verizon's 4G LTE, otherwise any battery savings gained with ICS will be lost or made worse by being constantly stuck on 4G. I just hope they're not making things worse with this update.

Haven't popped in lately. Is it confirmed that eventually we are only getting sense 3.6 with the update?

I don't know about confirmed. The only thing that is confirmed is that the Rezound is getting ICS, and nothing mentioned about upgrading Sense. But the Vivid got ICS with 3.6, and I thought at that time they said that Sense 4.0 would only come officially to any phone that had ICS out of the box (HTC One series, Inc 4G LTE, etc.). Any phone upgrading to ICS from GB (Vivid, Rezound, Sensation series, Thunderbolt, Inc S/2, etc.) would be getting 3.6. I had a link to an article from Pocket Lint that went over the differences between Sense 4.0 & 3.6 a few posts back. Not too many differences, mostly appearance and no ImageSense camera software for 3.6. But as far as confirmed, we all know nothing's confirmed until it starts rolling out.

I have the ICS leak on my phone from March, will I still get the OTA when it (eventually) arrives or do I have to revert back to GB stock?

You may want to install the latest leak, which includes the radios to allow updates. Or you may want to revert, if you wish to keep the HTC hidden menus which enable you to run on other carrier's LTE networks. Your choice. If you stick to Verizon exclusively, I would upgrade to the latest leak since you already "cracked" your warranty. However, I am staying stock until my warranty is up, so I'm not going to try and convince anyone of anything.

So when we get ics, what happens to the buttons?

From what I've heard/ read, we'll continue to use the capacitive buttons as we do now, & the on screen buttons will be disabled. The same thing will happen with phones like the One series & GS3 that still have capacitive buttons, the difference is those phones have a 3 button configuration like ICS's on screen ones. I was surprised actually to see cap. buttons on the phones launching with ICS, but they supposedly did that so as not to confuse the end user.

Man the whole ICS button thing really pisses me off. Now we'll be just like the iphones who use precious screen space for buttons instead of capacitive buttons. Why in the world they wanted to go to screen buttons is beyond me...ugh.

The thing with ICS onscreen buttons is they're not always there. Like if you're watching a video or viewing pictures, the buttons disappear, just like the player controls and progress bar do on the YouTube app.

What I don't get is why they continue to use capacitive buttons when software buttons are available. When phones start looking like HDTVs, with no/little bezel, there'll be no way to incorporate capacitive buttons. Plus no bezel buttons also give the devices a cleaner look.

I wouldn't expect someone who uses the term '*** iPhones' to understand why onscreen buttons are a superior option. Just my opinion.

Why are on screen buttons superior? It seems to me from my experience using ICS phones that they do take up screen space and force the user to reach higher up on the screen to use the "menu" button. Hence a larger screen is needed to get the same amount of real estate except for things like pictures and video. Larger screens tend to equal less battery life. ICS looks like it is going to be a much better OS but I'm not sold on how the menu button has been relegated to individual apps and is more inconvenient to access. But then again it is cool when the buttons change orientation.

I love symmetry. Leaving capacitive buttons between the bezel and the display centers the screen when the earpiece and light sensors are above it. Just my two cents. Besides, I don't like having to wait or double tap or perform any other additional actions for the on-screen buttons to appear. It's like using shortcut keys on a PC... sure, you can use a mouse, but why go through six menus when you can perform an action with a couple quick keystrokes? I loved my Eris call buttons for the same reason... and I miss the trackball.

I doubt the RZ will get ICS before late fall. Verizon and HTC are notorious for leaking rumors and never meeting the dates rumored.

Actually, they haven't given anywhere near a solid release date. The only thing HTC gave was 2012. The reason I think most are figuring soon is the builds that have leaked. They're not going to sit on a build for six months. The only reason for them to sit on a build at all is when there's a newer phone by the same manufacturer coming out. That way if people want the newer software they have to get the new phone or wait a week or two for the previous phone to get an update. That's how they've pretty much done it in the past.

Going by last year, most of the OEMs made a real effort to get their phone catalog updated, with HTC & Motorola doing the best job. Samsung & LG, not so much. Hell, the last official update for Samsung's Galaxy Nexus was launch day last December. There have been 2 or 3 builds since then, but none actually pushed OTA to the end users. I know one of the big deals with the Nexus is to root & rom the phone to your liking, but there are a lot of people who don't do that, and got the G-Nex for faster updates than manufacturer skinned phones. But so far that hasn't happened. It's almost like Verizon got it just to abandon it and discourage customers from wanting one in the future, because we all know how Verizon likes to keep iron fisted control on their phones.

It is almost like Verizon has abandoned the RZ. Never see any commercials, or ads from Best Buy. All you hear about is the Razor. My son picked up one a couple of weeks ago and all the Verizon rep would talk about was how good the Razor was over the Rezound.

Yeah I agree. Verizon is notorious for backing Moto phones even when superior units are available from other vendors. Maybe it's a contractual thing or they get have a higher profit margin built in to the moto?
Still, I think HTC shoots themselves in the foot by not using one or two models as flagships for all cell carriers and building more brand recognition based on the model name. Apple did it with iphone, RIM did it with the blackberry, moto did it with the original razor then with the droid and now again with the razor smart phones. It seems like poor marketing on HTC's part to me.
