hi.

during calls my screen times out and goes black after the set amount of seconds (can't remember what mine is set to), but i just wanna know if there is a way of keeping the screen from timing out for the duration of the call, thus making it easier to end the call without having to turn on and unlock the screen???

Maybe your hero settings are very different than the G1 .. but I go into the settings | Call Settings ... and one of the advanced setting options available is "Keep screen Awake" this keeps the screen open longer while you are "in-call" status ...

Are you rooted? I've got a G1 with cupcake and I don't have an "advanced" section of my Call Settings, nor do I have a "keep screen awake" option. I even tried looking in Spare Parts and it's not their either.

Yes, I have one of each ..rooted and Legit ... and yes I was looking at my rooted rather than the Legit version .... sorry for that being misleading ..

Someone mentioned earlier about waking the screen before hanging up. If you press the end call button, it will end the call as it wakes up, without a need for the touch button.

Is there definitely no inbuilt workaround for waking the screen up during a call? I've found this to be a big problem when I hit an automated service on the phone to my bank, etc.

Have you tried the free Shake Awake app from the Android marketplace? It worked a treat for me.

It is only active when you make a phone call, and can tell (because of the movement) that you're moving the phone from your ear to enter some numbers for an automated service.. and lights up the screen. Bingo!

We installed it the day after an exasperating experience trying to pay for parking via telephone. Never looked back.

Press the menu button that should wake the phone up during a call. The reason it goes to sleep is to prevent your ear or face from giving commands to the touch screen.

Just press the end call button o.o That's one of the big advantages the hero has over other android phones, call/end call button and more battery life! Use the advantages!

Yes that's all well 'n good but I would like my screen to stay awake as I often have to press number options going thru automated calls. Shaking the phone is not an option if its in a car cradle. Timeout setting would be perfect.

The reason the screen times out I believe is because they didn't want your face pushing against the touch screen buttons. I guess you like what you like lol Good luck with the dilemma but if you leave the phone on the cradle a lot, I would suggest buying a cheap phone for taking calls. Most smartphones can be good at anything but being phones xD

I have an app called proximity sensor or something that I installed ages ago. If you block the light to the screen (i.e. when you hold it to your head), it brings up it's own screen to block the in-call buttons. As soon as you move it away from your head the buttons become visible again.

That combined with screebl works pretty well.
