My beer of choice is Newcastle. I think it is simply the tastiest beer ever. The problem is, around here, it's somewhat hard to find. It's absolutely best out of a keg (the canned Newcastle is horrible and the bottles aren't much better), but restaraunts don't like to offer it because it is expensive, so they have to put a hefty price tag on it, thus not many people buy it.

It seems only half the UK sell it. I would try the lesser known stuff but I don't have time guessing their names. So I put drinks into three main groups; Guiness (too dark & sour), Carling, etc (dish water), & Newcastle Brown Ale. A bit like Goldilocks & the three beers ;) :).

I have walked out of pubs that have no Newcastle

We just passed Sunday sales in the last 6 months. We have something like a 12% max alcohol content for beer....yet we can buy golden grain 190 proof liquor.

That always confused me. Alabama just "popped their cap" so to speak by raising their max abv. on beers but can sell any liquor under the sun.
Some states' laws on alcohol sales just don't make any sense.

Politicians are inexplicable. It makes me want to shoot something or drink something.

...Strongbow
English Dry Cider
about $9.00/ 6 pk can (pint)
Best hard cider. Better on tap!
Really? Not that there's anything 'wrong' with it, but compared to a almost endless list of alternatives available in any super market in the UK; Magners, Bulmers, Westons, Rekorderlig, Aspalls, even Stella Artois etc. etc. Strongbow is Walmart's sparkling wine to their Pol Roger Champagne!

Reading about old beers made me meander to my utility room and .. sure enough on the top shelf and quite dusty are four Coors bottles shaped like baseball bats.
I have no idea how old these bottles are and I'm not going to attempt to consume the beer. I hope they are collectible because I'm certain the beer it way beyond it's shelf life :)

Might as well tell one more old beer story. When they first came out with ring pull tops I bought a six pack that had five ring tops and one that takes a church key. I put the oddball in my fridge door. I think it now resides in it's third fridge door. It sits next to the mustard and has for decades. I bet it's cold by now. :)

Zeigenbach: About $4 for a pint of draft (no idea about bottle/case price)
Only brewed/distributed in Texas
It's actually a Budweiser product that they produced because they were losing sales to Shiner

It's a dark amber with a light taste like a lager. Definitely the best Budweiser product I've ever tried. Wish they'd "export" it.

in college my entire room's ceiling was covered with NewCastle bottle caps. it looked really cool....but that took a lot of drinking to accomplish that:D

Rare VOS is a great beer, as is almost everything from Ommegang. My old next door neighbor (sadly moved) is the rep for Duvel Moortgat (owners of Ommegang). He'd hook me up with beer all the time. :) And got a great couple glasses from him for Ommegedon (one of their sour beers).
If you're looking for a similar style that's slightly cheaper, Leffe Blonde or Brune are solid choices.

Ommegang makes some excellent beers. I'm partial to their abbey ale.
