Root 2.3.6 update, clockwork mod recovery error

I got the update message for what is apperantly 2.3.6. When it goes to restart, it boots into a clockwork mod recovery menu.

Hitting the first option (reboot or something like that) causes it to reboot but the update doesn't work.

Complicating things are that the menu, search, back, and home buttons seem to be how you navigate this screen. Today I tried again to update, same thing happened, I noticed it had an option to "apply update from SD card," but accidentally selected the same option "reboot" because I hit the wrong button. Now when I search for an update, it says I can't search again for 24 hours.

I'm in over my head a bit. Applying the update from the SD card sounds like I should be safe, but considering I've messed this up twice now, I should ask.

EDIT: Carrier is AT&T, rooted with superoneclick.

My first SR had issues after trying to upgrade to 2.3.6 wouldn't do it, I did the one click odin for ICS and ran it for a week and to many bugs for me. Flashed back to 2.3.5 and it would not update to 2.3.6, took it to a ATT Device Store where they flashed there version of 2.3.5 on it and it still would not do the update and they sent me a new phone.

I looked for a 2.3.6 file and could not find one.

See if you have a support store near you.

that allowed me to dl the update again, but clockwork mod recovery still seems to have caused the install to be interrupted.

Selecting install and apply the update failed.

I had the same issue. After searching the web I discovered that Clockwork Recovery does not work with OTA upgrades. I had to re-install the stock recovery program to get the OTA to work.

That should work.
It did, thanks. For anyone else needing a bit of guidance, also check these threads:

[How To] Put Phone In Download Mode and/or Recovery Mode - xda-developers

The only 'issue' I had was that odin didn't recognize my phone in download mode right away. However, as I was looking around for anyone else with that issue, it came up...so if it doesn't detect it right away for you, just give it a few minutes. As an aside, this only happened in download mode - when connecting it in USB mode as usual, it was recognized right away. Go figure.

Just remember, if all you're trying to do is replace CWM with the stock recovery so you can do the 2.3.6 update (or any OTA update, I guess), be sure the .tar file you're using only has the recovery file in it (like this one).
