How long have you kept a phone previously? Most don't last more than a year or two before replacing it.

As for 2015, Sprint has the option to renew, and that is when the contract runs out with Clearwire, not when it will be turned off. Besides, 4g is not the primary network, 3g still is. 4G is only a bonus if you happen to be able to get it, and even then, most Sprint users left it turned off unless they needed it because of battery life. It's not going to replace 3g as the primary data system for at least 2 more years as the network needs to be built out more and the radios need to become more efficient.

Battery life is why the Iphone 4S didn't come with 4g.

I'm personally more interested in the 3d capabilities than the 4g. I'm almost always in wifi. My question is, how is dev on the Evo? Are there decent roms out? Leslie Ann, will you be doing an Evo Harmonia?

The 3d is probably the only thing I don't care about at all. There is a ton of development and support for the evo. Unfortunately there are no roms for the evo 4g V yet because it hasn't been released. There's no telling if it'll get as much support as the sprint version.

There's no guarantee if Clearwire can make it to 2015 themselves. A lot has to happen (like them finally laying down LTE instead of just talking about it and what they could do with it) for them to make it. And yeah, battery life is a concern and so is the reception for me, making WiMAX less of a possibility for me...but I guess that's how I'm going to roll on the issue.

That being said, by the time 2015 rolls around, Sprint is probably going to open LTE (whatever revision no. is is by then) to VM and Boost because by then LTE-Advanced will have been fully vetted, tested and deployed with handsets available for that.

Does anyone know if the One V will have 4g? I've been looking at specs on the two, and the One V is very tempting at 200 dollars. That's 100 dollars less than the Evo. As much as I'd like the 3d, I've gotta look at price. On the plus side, they're both running ICS and Sense 4.

I don't know but they did a silent release of the optimus elite and its just 3g and 175.00

The evo v 4g will come with sense 3.6

It's one of the top ten most dev'd phones on XDA.
over 300 threads in the dev section, more than almost any other phone except Evo 4G. To put that in perspective, the OV forum there has 60 and even major phones like the Galaxy S2, has only around 200.

Yes, there will be a Harmonia 3 (ICS) almost right away (Maybe before we have the phone even), and more than likely a Harmonia 2 (GB). I can actually build Harmonia 2 for it at any time by using CM7, and just patching MMS. I already did it for Evo 4G and Shift for people with ported phones, and a few have done it for the Epic as well, it takes all of 5 minutes.

Most Sprint ICS, MIUI, GB, and CM7 roms can be patched to make MMS work in a matter of minutes. Sense on the other hand... No.

I don't believe the OneV has a wimax radio. I would ignore the 4g as being a bonus on the Evo V instead of a feature because it's so limited and chews up batteries.

Also, while the OneV will be a nice phone, and capable of running anythig on the market (except GTA3), it's only going to fall further behind (the Evo V is actually current, the 1.2 dual core is an underclocked dual 1.5). Don't get me wrong, the OneV will be a great phone. It's similar in spec to the much loved Evo 4G (which I have and love), so it will be nice, but we have no idea how developers will take to it, or how hard it will be to root, no 4g, and you still lose grandfathered status.

If you can afford it, you really should consider the Evo V, but if not, the OneV will still be nice and be the second best phone on Virgin (followed by the OV in my opinion). I plan on putting my mom on one as she doesn't need a V, or root. She is still on my old Blackberry so a OneV will be world changing as it is, but being someone used to a hacked OV, you really will benefit more from the Evo V.

I hope the devs latch onto the OneV, it would be great to have both well supported, but if you are really considering it, and you are used to playing with your phone, either get the Evo V, or wait and see what happens with the OneV before you buy because the dev community just may skip it (which will be a shame).

Thanks LeslieAnn, that's all very helpful. I would very much like an Evo, but the cost is tough. I'm a hungry college student over here. If the Evo is going to have better Root and Rom options, that will be a big selling point. But I'll probably wait a month or so to see what's on the OneV.

We have been screaming at them for over a year to get something better than the OV, that wasn't a joke or junk (Triumph). We finally get a great phone and everyone wonders why some of us are happy as heck about it? Many have always said if they brought a good, nice phone for around $300 that we would buy it. Many argued there was no good phones they could offer for $300 except something like the Triumph.

I was ready to buy, but disappointed with the Triumph. I was waiting, cash in hand, for the Optimus Black that never came. Them sending it to Boost was why I bought my Evo 4G. I was so fed up, that had I not bought that, I would be on T-Mobile, Red Pocket or an Iphone on Verizon's Go Phone plan (that should tell you something since, I really don't like the Iphone ad feel like kicking myself every time I considered one).

Plus, I want to see the Evo V do well, because it will change how companies look at Pre-paid. No longer will it be seen by them as low end customers. Many thought the Triumph would and worried that Virgin would see it's failure as evidence that we wouldn't buy better phones if offered. Now we have a chance to show them we will, we just won't buy a rebadged pile of poo.

They are exactly the same. Last year VM increased the $25 plan to $35, but those already on VM were left at the old price.

A lot of people make that claim, and yes you can, but that means carrying two devices to do one job, plus a tablet doesn't fit in your pocket.

You have no idea how inconvenient that is. It's horrible on battery life (mainly for the phone) for starters, and it's not very convenient to lug a tablet around.

Plus, what kind of "real nice tablet" can $300 get you?

I have loved using the OV for over a year now, but I'm very interested to see this phone, the OV is really starting to feel slow in comparison to my other Android devices. A couple things to keep in mind;

- When the Triumph was released I snagged that $300 phone for $223 at Best Buy on its opening weekend. Not sure if anyone can afford to do that with the Evo, but I would imagine a little patience during and after release may pay off. It's probably also worth noting that the Triumph is actually only worth about $25, that phone was an embarrassment to VM.

- Until the Virgin Mobile coverage map looks [even remotely] close to a contract carrier's coverage map, I have a feeling VM's users (myself included) will always be viewed as "folks on a budget," to put it gently. Seriously, VM's coverage map looks like someone went over major cities and a few major highway systems with a highlighter, and that's all ya get. Obviously the current 4G offerings are pitiful enough that only those lucky folks will have access to that.

What kind of battery life can be expected with the Evo with low to moderate use, an entire day? Are there cheap spare batteries available and are they fairly easy to swap out?

I only spent $100 and got a great 7" tablet, for $200 I could get an awesome 10".

The last guy claiming they got a great tablet for $100, had it last about 2 weeks before the screen cracked from a small fall. Which is exactly what I have heard many, many times over from cheap tablet owners.

Prepaid coverage will not look like postpaid until carriers accept as being just as good as postpaid (T-Mobile is heading there, some MVNOs already are), because until they do that, we won't get roaming. Most other countries see our subsidized phones and contracts as being backwards, prepaid is the norm.

As for Evo V battery life, excluding 4g, I have heard you will get a normal days use out of it. Unlike the OV, where you have to watch what you do. Operating it like an OV should get you somewhere around 2 days, possibly.

It's not a matter of who I trust to sell it, it's who I trust to make it.
I have read story after story after story of people buying cheap tablets and constantly coming away frustrated. There are always some who defy the odds, in my opinion and experience you seem to be one of them.

For good electronics, I don't buy cheap, off brand (and sometimes branded as well) stuff for good reason.

problem is everything is made in China, even apple products. brand name means very little anymore.
Even stuff "made" in the US is just assembled in the US.
all electronic components are made out of country by who even gives the cheapest bid, China.

but how it goes, in my life time everything had a made in Japan sticker on it, then it changed to made in Taiwan, and now they all say made in China. And every time the said products were considered inferior for a time.

Guessing the only people still in business in the same place are the ones who make those tiny stickers
