Kellex rant on vzw not updating gnex

Doubtful, but maybe VZW figures since this is the "Nexus", that everyone will root and rom it, so out of spite they forgo update rollouts. Gawh now I've joined all the conspiracy theorists! :p

I really feel for those that have issues. Like some here have already done, I'd have switched phones in a heartbeat no matter how much I liked the GN. I am very fortunate to have 99.9% reliable phone and data services with this phone. My sister does as well.

Yeah, I definitely agree with some points. But to be honest, at least we got it. Probably never see another Nexus on VZW again.

after this one would we really want to? i wouldn't. IMO with the rumor of yesterday that Google is opening up the Nexus program and releasing mass Nexus devices this year , the Nexus meaning is even more watered down.

Absolutely. Despite the fail that VZW has brought this phone on their network, I still have no desire for a bloatware-ridden, skinned android phone. The Nexus is the easiest way to avoid that. The alternative is waiting for dev support and bootloader unlocks/etc. And phones are hit or miss. Look at the Rezound and the amazingly dysfunctional userbase and dev community there. People who bought the Rezound hoping for an eventual AOSP-based ROM are very disappointed right now I'm sure.

I can't relate to your frustrations with the GN, but I do hope VZ does get another Nexus device.

With the "delayed" launch of the device and second hand treatment the phone was getting, I wasn't really upset (or surprised) that S/W updates have not occurred. I bought the phone mainly for the ease of development and customization. Feel bad for those experiencing issues tho. :/ The conspiracy theorist in me wants to say VZW is behind this to make the G-Nex look bad and the other Android phones look awesome in comparison lol

IMO, releasing more devices wouldn't water down the Nexus meaning. However, I do believe VZW approach to the G-Nex has hampered perceptions of what to expect from a Nexus device. I don't forsee VZW getting another device because of this. I wanted to say only the GSM devices are getting timely updates, but Sprint has been fairly prompt with updates as well.

Well, to be fair they haven't released an update, it was just released with 4.0.4 and I doubt Sprint does nearly the amount of anal testing that VZW does.

Ah sorry, I should have noted their existing support for the Nexus S. I also don't think they do as much testing, but I have a few friends with the Nexus S and their ICS update went smooth.

Ohh! ok. Yeah I have no idea about the One S :) But hopefully for the Sprint gnex owners, they are as timely with the gnex as they were with the One S. :)

That was what I suspected too. I think VZW could have treated Gnex better if they wanted. But probably they were not so interested in that. So I'm not sure if they will do next Nexus again.

As for new Nexus program news, I think it's good approach if true. Just not sure how that will play with CDMA carriers like verizon/sprint.

i think a lot of people are forgetting that part. Because of the licensed radio files more than likely VZW will be left out this first round. If not then the updates will be just as slow as they have been for the GNex.

If they really do this soon, I don't see much point of staying with VZW. That is if other carriers are serving your area fine. Next GSM nexus is looking more likely for me.

Yeah but if we got the gsm version, wouldn't we have to pay the full price, around $600, rather than Verizon's subsidized price? I got my gnex for $150 at launch through amazon. I like timely updates, but I don't regret paying an additional $450 to get an update. With google, opening up the nexus line to multiple manufacturers at a time, I'm hoping it does leave verizon, or at least verizon isn't the only initial launch device available.
