Problems with the Hero hardware and software

I think the hero is a good phone and like the customization but it is lacking alot of stuff.

First: the lock screen sucks, I don't know why they designed it going up and down instead of left to right like the flan or eclair style or the iPhones.

Second: The screen is supposed to be a capacitive scree, when the phone is sitting on a desk flat down you have to put more pressure on the screen in order to recognize the touch. I have had two different Hero's and they both due that. Every other capacitive screen phone I have used has never done that.

third: The Big clock Widget is terrible, yes it looks nice but it doesn't work. 80% of the time I use my phone the clock has the wrong time, usually from the last time the phone was on, then it takes 3-4 seconds to go to the right time, by the time that happens I can look above on the upper right for the time, it defeats the purpose of taking up half of the home screen when it doesn't even work properly.

fourth: HTC screwed up the Music app.
Not only does it automatically go to artist by default, rather than songs, but every time you launch the app that happens and you cannot change it. That is stupid, when you go to the last played song or the now playing song it takes 5 seconds to load up the place you were at.

Lastly: The browser does not let you turn flash off, sometimes I will go to a website and it takes a minute plus to give me the full screen, and all it is, is loading up unnecessary flash.

Now I know plenty of you are going to comment on this saying, "well why don't you get another phone" I like the Hero, but this is fair criticism of the phones fault.

Also if you are not having the issue don't waste my time and space saying that it doesn't happen to you, because these issue happen to me and many others I am sure.

So you want to rant, but don't want any responses?

First: I kinda like the screen lock. Why would you want a copy of another phone?

Second: I've noticed too that it is more difficult to use the phone when it's laying flat, but if you hold your finger just right it works. I don't think it has anything to do with pressure.

Third: I love the clock widget, it looks pretty sweet!! If the phone sits idle for awhile it does take a few secs for it to sync up, but who cares? It looks nice. Like you said, there is a clock in the top right corner so it's not really needed anyhow. If you don't like it, you can take it off or replace it with something else.

Fourth: I use Pandora and haven't put my own music on it. I love Pandora, it works flawlessly!!

Fifth: This phone surfs the web faster than my 10 year old desktop, so I can't complain.

Seems like the majority of your complains are preferences you have, not faults with the phone. You prefer to slide a lock screen left or right, not down. You don't have to use the clock they give you, you can find another one. This is actually a PLUS! The phone is so customizable. You prefer to have your music app launch in song mode, not artist mode. Still, nothing technically wrong with the app. And, of course, you can use a different app if you choose. (It took me days before I found a calendar app I could live with!)

It took me a long time to get used to the virtual keyboard. I used a Palm Treo for years and loved it. I preferred how the Treo worked. I wanted it back! But then I relaxed a little and went with it. Now, I love this Hero. From time to time it lags, every now and then I have trouble with a web page, but this Hero and I are getting to know each other.

In another few years, when new technology springs forward and I end up replacing my Hero, I will go through the same thing again. Frustration in the beginning, learning a new OS (or whatever is new), dealing with preferences that are not mine, but I will come around. I hope you give your phone a chance. It is a great phone! Play around with some different apps. You will find ones that fit you better.
