ICS storage capacity..

ok... so i finially decided to update my A500 to ICS..
i have a 16GB but after update it says 12GB!!!
how is that possible?

besides that everythign works fine so far with all my apps and OS..
rotation is ok no problems...
Glad to hear things are working fine for you. As long as you "shop" carefully for apps you install, and test adequately, your tablet will likely continue to run smooth.

The system uses about 4GB, and what you describe is normal. I have a 32GB a500, and it shows ~27.5GB of user space. This did not change noticeably from Honeycomb.

That's the way vendors typically advertise the system -- by what is installed. It would be nice if they would advertise user memory, instead of total.

maybe you are right but i thought that before i saw i had 15.something GB instead the 12.7 i have now...
or you mean that ICS takes the 4gb?? actually is less cause the 16GB are not true 16GB..

Both Honeycomb and ICS tablets use about the same amount of memory for the system. The actual system memory total used by your tablet is apparently slightly less than that used by mine -- i.e., less than 4 GB for your 16GB tab as you note. That may be due to the additional overhead required to support the larger 27 GB filesystem used on the 32GB model.

ok.. so im not worrying about this anymore..
but still i think honeycomb was using less memory
i cant recall right now but i think i had 12.2GB free before update and now i have 10gb free... so it used 2.2gb.. the update file itself was 350Mb i think..and of course after installing the update i was expecting to be used more than 350 but never expected 2.2 gb at the end of instalation..

This was the view from Honeycomb: Acer Support - Answers, E-Mail, Chat - Why don?t I see 16GB of Internal Storage on my Android tablet with 16GB of flash memory?

My daughter has the same tablet as you and has not updated yet, and sure enough, that's what her storage screen shows also. If you see 12.7 Total space now -- Total, not "Available" -- it appears that you actually got a bonus with the upgrade to ICS.

I now realize that I did not really need the 32GB model. I've never used more than ~8GB total of user space, and that was only temporary. My more typical usage is less than 4 GB, and at current, only 1.5GB.

Enjoy your cool toy! I've had mine 6 months and still can't seem to put it down.

thank you! I wasnt sure if if HC gave me more free memory to use i guess i was wrong!
And i dont think i gonna ever use all the memory of my tablet but if i did there s always a change to upgrade memory through external d card memory.

I had a problem with drive space before my last reset. It kept saying my system was low on space and kept telling me I had 13 gigs filled with 10mb available. Started uninstalling apps all over the place but it didn't help. ICS has been very frustrating. I read in one of the other posts that I should clear my cache. I did a search and found thew info on XDA how to clear cache. I did it and it cleared it but also did a factory reset... arrgg!!!. But the did clear up all the drive being over full. I have installed all kinds of apps and still have room to spare. So check to see if your cache is filling up and causing it to appear that your drive is full.

thanks I ll check that out but it s more likely that is not a problem and it s the space used for ICS.
Ill take a look anyways.
