Vlingo for Android Beta

Hey Guys,

Vlingo is a voice recognition app (already available for BB, Nokia, and iPhone) that lets you speak to search, send texts, speak into any textbox, and more.

We're getting Vlingo for Android ready and we are running a beta test. If anyone is interesting in participating you can sign up here:

Vlingo for Android - Beta Signup Survey

We should have the app out to people that signed up sometime next week. Really interested in getting your feedback!

Not to be an ass or anything, but why would I want this when my N1 already does speech-to-text for every text field (including URL, search, SMS, whatever)?

It's a good question :) Main answer is try it out and I think you'll see, but here are a few reasons:

* Top level commands (lets you say 'text john, where are we meeting?' and you are taking to the conversation view with john with that text ready to send.)
* Better speech recognition (works much better with contact names, better correction features, etc)
* One button to speak anything, meaning you have to look at your phone much less when using voice

Sounds good. How does it do with non-standard accents? Google's voice recognition handles that by "training" itself and caching things you've spoken before for better accuracy next time, but the first time around can be a hit or miss with anything that's not standard west coast US accent.

I installed on my HTC Desire and it works OK for Voice Dialing. I'm not a native english language speaker, however I use english at the office in 50% of time. I wonder if the application can still be configured to work without a data connection to Internet and only search for existing Contacts in the phone memory... Any idea ?
