Work email only works with IE - Help!

Yes, exactly. My company (big insurance co.), uses MS exchange and it recognizes your browser. It won't let me access my mail through the Android default browser or Steel.

On the exchange sign in screen it states you have to be using a recent version of IE to access. I can't access it using Chrome on my home computer, for example.

Any thoughts?

Install Dolphin Browser and it will allow you to choose user agent as Desktop and if you are using OWA same as my company (big insurance company btw) it will allow you to use it.

Why don't you just connect your Mail app to MS Exchange rather than using a browser? Just setup the account with the server address being the address you use to access Outlook Web Access and your domain username/password.

Because ones needs privileges to do that. You need to request rights to be able to use that and then you encounter a problem: A list of company approved devices that company emails can be stored on: Android is not on it.
Besides, if you request it and do not have a real reason for having the rights you will not get them.
That is the way big companies work.

Have you tried it? Our company has over 8000 employees and the only mobile device supported is Blackberry yet I was able to connect my Hero as I suggested without any issues.

Yeah, and my company has 300 000 employees and it cannot be done.

Only iPhone and BlackBerries can connect AFTER one get permissions to connect at all.

Besides why store all the stuff that comes to your work email on your device if you can just check quickly from time to time using OWA?

Besides, I work in the IT department and it is my responsibility to know such things.

And yes, I have tried it and it does not work if you do no have rights.

OK guys relax.

I AM trying to get my email on my phone, that's why I posted this question on an Android forum and listed that I am using a Hero.

1. I'm using a Hero - current updates

2. I'm trying to access my email from my company. Big insurance company that ONLY supports Crackberries(tm).
- They won't allow me to access my email via the Mail app. The IT dept has cut off that access.
- The only way for me to access my MS Exchange email, outside of using Outlook on my laptop, is to use Internet Explorer (Outlook Web Access). So, I can access my email remotely - but I have to do it through IE.

3. My problem - I can't access my email on my Hero and I would like to.
I've tried using the default browser AND Steel.
- When attempting to log into the exchange mail server:
http://mail.BigInsuranceCo.com
ID:yyyyy
Pswd: xxxxx
I get the same error message: You could not be logged into Outlook Web Access.
It states that I must use Internet Explorer 6 or greater.

4. My question, does anyone know of a way I can access Outlook Web Access (with security set at it's highest levels and it thinks IE is the safest browser - ya, stoopid I know) via my Hero?

I downloaded Dolphin.
I went to Settings, changed the User Agent to Desktop - as mentioned above. And still get the same error message.

I don't know what 'OWA' is.

Hi chathamsolutions,

I just want to ask (don't bite my head off if you have) but have you actually tried connecting through the Mail app? I know your company only supports Blackberries mine too, yet I was able to connect my Hero without any issues. It's just so much more user friendly than using webmail.

If that fails can I suggest you try xScope browser, with useragent = computer. It uses a different backend than the stock/dolphin/steel browsers.
