Help User Reviews of The HTC EVO 4G LTE

First impressions; I am coming from an OG EVO. This phone is like the taller, skinnier brother of the EVO. You can tell that they are related, but they look very different. The red band is as gorgeous as the smudged fingerprint collection area is ugly. Neither of these things matter that much to me because I will have to get a case since this phone is so slippery. I have dropped this thing three times already. I'm sure that part of it is that I am not used to its dimensions, but it is much more slippery than my OG EVO. If I set it on a hard surface with the screen down, I either have to use both hands and my fingernails to pick it up or stick a fingernail into the MHL(?) port on the side. I hope that someone develops a very grippy replacement cover for the fingerprint collection panel so that I go without a case.

How's the camera and app? How's the volume of the back speaker?

I'm not a camera guy, but I have accidentally taken a few pictures while trying to pick up my phone: they look OK.:D

The volume of the back speaker is louder than my OG EVO and a lot clearer.

I suspect that my battery life won't be all that great since my phone can't get a data connection, but it is constantly trying to.

WOW I have only had it for about at hour now but I am in love it so far. Looks wise I really think the contrast works. i can see how some people will hate it but it gives it a unique flair from other phones and the red kickstand breaks it up nicely. If I get sick of it I may try sanding down the plastic and refinish it(If I do I will do a step by step. The silver band around the phone classes it up a bit though some of the choices on the buttons is odd they are not uniform but I can live with that. Personally I like how it feels in my hand better than the One X not much different but enough.

The camera is super snappy and the photos I have taken turned out better than any phone I have had before( I am no pro either). The burst feature is really fun and obviously the dedicated shutter button brings it home must have feature coming from the 3D. Haven't messed with settings yet but I am sure if you are big into that they could get better.

The speaker phone is very crisp and loud big improvement over the 3D(not that is a big deal that speaker was horrid). It may be be placebo effect from the love fest I am having but I think music through the headphone jack is even improved over my 3D and I am using the same set of earbuds.

I have put the OS through some minor multi-tasking stess tests, played World of Goo(big resource hog), NBA JAM, and a few other games without a hitch no lag or studdering thus far but it is early.

Definitely worth the wait and great phone choice I will stop now as I know you are all getting yours today so I am going back to play with it. Good luck to everyone hope yours comes before your done reading this

I have only used mine a little so far but while the phone is nice, I was a little let down by the length of the cord it came with. I have a plug on the floor and with it plugged in the cable is so short I can not even use it when sitting on my couch without hunching over. The cable is less then the length of my arm.

I had to dig thru a box of extra wires/parts and found the cord from one of my old phones and it was about 2x the lenght.

Mine also arrived ON with the display fully lit up so the battery died before I could even do much. I am charging it now and playing with it some.

I also took off the top back and inserted the storage card and that was easy to do but the top plastic piece sure gets dirty and smudgy fast. I can't wait for my case to come.

Sorry if this sounds a little negative, I am really excited to have this great new phone, but the thread is first impressions and I was like WTH when I opened the box and the phone was already on and display lit, then I went to charge it and the cord is so short.

No comments on the screen?

Excuse my absent mindedness. The screen is gorgeous beats any phone on the market and no pentile sg3 is going to top it. Side by side to my neighbors iphone it isn't even fair. I am not even mad at Apple anymore they had to at least try and stop it.

My neighbor has had an Iphone for years always trying to get him to switch 5 minutes after seeing EL TEVO he is talking about making the switch he is embarrassed by his 3.5 inches compared to this beast.

Really there is so much to love if anyone on the fence has any specific questions or concerns hit me up I will answer them

I am a proud new owner of the best "phone" on the planet!! (picked up at BB)

how you like them, apples?? LOL

all I have to say for right now is that pictures DO NOT do this beast justice. mine is not turned on yet (still charging) and can't say anything yet about my most anticipated feature on this phone, the 4.7" IPS Super LCD Screen (same pixel density as an iCrap just waayyy bigger. that's right, size does matter)

feels great in hand. easy to hold, lighter (but not too light to feel cheap) and a lot more polished then the OG EVO (which I loved sooo much, btw). top notch quality all around.

anyways, hope you guys get yours soon. it is much sweeter then you imagine it!

Ok, I'm confused about this charging thing. When I get my phone I'm going to:
1) Plug into charger.
2) Attempt to activate online (switching with my Moment).
3) Turn on phone while still plugged into charger.
4) Worship phone
Is this in some way detrimental?

When mine arrived it was already turned on and activated when I removed it from the box. I don't know if I am the only one or this might be the norm.

Then I just charged it.

After I met the UPS guy at the door (I spent the day looking out my window) I opened the box immediately to get my hands on my much anticipated new "phone". When I picked up the phone I began to look through the box for the battery. Then it hit me, the phone already has the battery in it! This thing is so light I thought it was my OG Evo with the battery pulled!

The next thing I was curious about was the kickstand. All the pictures and demos I have seen describe it as being very sturdy and it does not disappoint. Using the kickstand in either landscape position is quite sturdy. I was worried when I saw the charging port was on the side that would typically be along the surface the phone was resting on in my OG Evo, but the kickstand supports the phone just as well on the opposite side. Using the kickstand in portrait is a very wobbly proposition though. It is also a chore to get the kickstand out, but it is a small price to pay for the sturdiness.

Now it was time to fire this baby up. It took 12 seconds to go from completely off to the homescreen. Wow.

The display is amazing. In my opinion it puts my wife's iPhone 4s to shame. The display is perfect from just about any viewing angle and looks great even in sunlight (check the weather in Chicago today, it doesn't get any sunnier than this.) The apps I have used so far do not use the entire screen. (Drawsome, Facebook) I figured this would be the case and I was correct. The bottom half inch or so of the screen becomes black and is just a large button to access any app menus or settings.

I also am quite impressed with the camera. The pictures are beautiful and the hd video is far superior to my OG Evo. I do not like the dedicated camera button on the side of the phone right now. It takes a bit of pressure to press on it and results in the phone moving ever so slightly and a blurry picture. I hope as I use it more that won't become an issue.

As far as the speed of the phone it is quite snappy. It is barebones as of right now, but there is absolutely no delay when swiping between screens or scrolling the apps. Apps like facebook and drawsome load in about an 1/8 the time as on my OG Evo and even the browser seems much faster.

The design of the phone is hit and miss. I do not like the top casing around the camera. My fingerprints were all over that part in a matter of seconds. I do like the matte part of the case and wish that covered the whole back with the red kickstand separating the top and bottom so there is still access to the memory card. The sides of the device are easy to grasp, although it does seam to be a little top heavy an almost fell out of my hands once or twice.

That's my first impressions of the HTC EVO LTE! I'd be happy to answer any questions if I missed anything!

I've been playing with the phone most of the day now, and I must say "wow". Picking it up for the first time I was amazed at how much lighter it is than my OG EVO. It literally makes the OG EVO feel like a brick. It is roughly as wide, quite a bit taller, and much thinner than the OG EVO (which I stood in line for on launch day BTW).

The kickstand - wow. It is solid. Hold the phone very nicely in all 3 positions.

The display - wow. (Yes, I said "wow" a LOT today!). It is gorgeous - and HUGE. Crisp, clean, everything you expect, hope for or want.

Swype is included, which had me worried for a minute. I panicked for a minute when I had to type in things one letter at a time, and long press didn't bring up input methods. Quickly found the setting under settings however.

I decided to just add my apps from http://play.google.com which was amazing. This phone is SO fast, that by the time I stopped clicking "Install" and "ok" the app was already on the phone and installed. I haven't run any benchmarks or anything, but it is fast. Screen swipes, app loading, are all very nice.

I really don't like the charge port location. Maybe I'll get used to it, maybe not. I must say it is extremely annoying trying to hold the phone while it is charging. No word yet on battery life, as it has been plugged in all day while I install, configure, etc. The phone arrived with basically no charge.

All in all, it has lived up to my expectations, and they were very high. Coming from an OG EVO, you'll fall in love with an all new EVO, all over again.

regarding call quality, I called my uncle and after a while told him I was on the cell phone and he didn't believe me. he said "wow". he said it sounded VERY clear with no problems at all. I'm still playing with it, formatting my sd card now. haven't even got to the cam yet. I agree with posts about it being best screen they've seen on a cell phone. it really is amazing. the weight is also amazing. while feeling almost like you've got nothing in your hand, it feels solid still. thinness is ridiculous. plus the silver band creates an illusion as if the band represents the total thickness of the phone, perhaps bcuz it's just black below it. I honestly feel that people who REALLY think the glossy back is ugly after seeing it in person are REALLY exaggerating, perhaps due to all the press about it. just my opinion . it really is beautiful piece of hardware. I at least can't even see the fingerprints on it unless I turn it in a way as to create a glare, which makes them visible. it really screams sophistication to me. just beautiful. power button clicks (not as in sound, but feel) and you can tell you're turning on and off the screen if that makes sense. kickstand is as advertised. ICS will take getting used to just cuz I'm new to it. as of now I do miss the dedicated search button, and I'm still tinkering to get as close to having it the way it'd be comfortable....more soon

*edit*. whaddya know...power button does click (as in sound too)...nice
