ICS... CSC are you eligible for an update?

HI
First off i'd like to thank ironass for all the advice he keeps giving which is also the sole reason for me creating an account in here.

OK ballstothewall... you've got my attention with a compliment like that. I need all the brownie points I can get with the Mod's... just in case! ;)

My CSC no is I9100OJPKG1 currently running Android version 2.3.3.

Your CSC code is OJP which, as you quite rightly say, is an, "Open", CSC code covering, "Iraq, Egypt, Sadi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, UAE and Middle East".

Unfortunately, no ICS update has been released for this CSC code yet and I have no idea if, or when, it may be released.

When i connect to Kies it shows an update to KJ1 i think which i'm assuming is 2.3.4

Android 2.3.4 is a very old update and I would not bother with it personally.

If you would like the latest Sri Lanka ICS Android, 4.0.3, firmware on your phone you will need to flash this using Odin3 v1.85 and using the instructions given in post #1 under the heading, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!".

This will, in theory, void your warranty and you will not be able to update via Kies or OTA in future but you can flash updates via Odin3. The firmware for Sri Lanka, Open, CSC code ODD can be downloaded here.

Alternatively you could use the same procedure with Odin3 and update your OJP firmware to Android 2.3.5 using this download, here.

This will not void your warranty or prevent you from using Kies for future updates.

The choice, as they say... is yours!

Thanks for the advice.

ok so could you please clarify the term "flashing" here, as option 1 renders the warranty unusable and option 2 does not.

But ultimately for both options i will have to flash the phone right?

But ultimately for both options i will have to flash the phone right?

The flashing procedure is described in detail in the video in post #1 that I referred to and applies to both of the options I mentioned.

Your phone was purchased with OJP firmware and flashing an OJP update does not void your warranty terms. You could take you phone to a Samsung Service Point and explain your difficulties in updating the OJP firmware and they may even update the OJP firmware for you to the latest version, currently 2.3.5.

However, flashing another firmware for something other than your original CSC code will trigger the hidden flash counter and void your warranty should you need a repair.

Having said that, it is possible, in the event a repair is required, to flash your original CSC coded firmware and reset the flash counter by various means. ;)

Dear Ironass,

Thanks a lot for your excellent post,

Just 5 mins before i upgraded to version 2.3.5 from 2.3.3 using KIES sucessfully, alhumdulilah.

I lived in SAUDI Arab and bought SGS2 from local market here.

As I can see that a lot of people are desparatley looking to upgrade their SGS2 to version 4.0.3 ICS in Saudi Arab and Middleeast. I decided to take a risk on my almost 10 months old SGS2 : ). I have the following queries.

1) I decided to go for the I9100XWLP7_I9100OJVLPB_ARB.zip , two reason , one is i think it is a much newer version then posted in the CNET link in your first post and also it support arabic lanaguage as well. Please confirm that it is newer version.

2) if I do backup using MYBACKUP (rereware) and worst come worst if everything will be wipe out, will be able to restore the backup using MYBACKUP.

3) I had a issue from day one that during the call the receiver always complain to me that I cannot hear you properly, I have to speak very loudly since day one I bought this phone, I really want to get rid of this issue, I hope that newer version will solve it, appreciate if you or anyone can guide me in this how to resolve this really nagging issue.

My current version 2.3.5

TIA
Nasim

That would be the post for the CNET link that I say...

(*** Ignore the ICS file that they suggest you download and use the official firmware mentioned above)
;)

LP7 is indeed the latest version for your region.

2) if I do backup using MYBACKUP (rereware) and worst come worst if everything will be wipe out, will be able to restore the backup using MYBACKUP.

MyBackup will only restore your app's and data. It is not a nandroid backup, which is a complete, mirror image. Therefore if you wanted to revert back to your present firmware you would have to re-flash it with Odin.

3) I had a issue from day one that during the call the receiver always complain to me that I cannot hear you properly, I have to speak very loudly since day one I bought this phone, I really want to get rid of this issue,

This is commonly caused by the, "Noise reduction", feature. Call quality is usually enhanced by turning this feature OFF during a call. It can only be accessed when you are in a call, by pressing the menu soft key. The good news is that since being on ICS, I have not experienced this. Hopefully ICS will sort this problem out for you too. :)

Thanks Ironass, never even looked there since I am in the US and just bought it off of newegg like 6 months ago.

BTW, the only Kies I have is Kies air. Is it possible to upgrade from there as I see no update available, or do I need the other version of Kies?

Thanks again...:)

Sigh......I got my phone last July so it's almost off warranty and I want ICS! I got it through Newegg in Canada so it was an International version and had Spanish as default when I started it up. It had one update last September so it's a museum piece, I'm sure!
Here is the phone's CSC info:
CSC : I9100TPAKI2

For the life of me I can not find it listed....I'm sure it's scheduled last for the ICS update! Now I'm on a Mac so Odin isn't a cheap option, now if I change my CSC for Telus compatibility to say Bell?....does that lock my phone to their network? any help would be appreciated

Generally speaking, the newer the firmware, the more improvements. For instance, LPW is a much better firmware, IMHO, than LPQ which was the first to be released on Kies.

At the moment I am using the very latest ICS firmware, LPG, for Nordic Countries with a European language pack.

Roughly, the order of release for ICS has been..

LPQ, LP7, LP8, LP9, LPS, LPW, LPD, LPE, LPF, LPG for European phones if I remember correctly. Of course, it depends on which region you are in and which language packs you need.

A quick look through SamMobile, mentioned in post #1, will give you the latest versions for your needs.

Don't feel bad BCwrangler... even I had to search hard for that CSC code, TPA.

It's a PANAMA code and, as you have found out, has only had one update in Gingerbread, last September, to Android 2.3.4.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an ICS update anytime soon... if ever!

A lot of Canadian users of the SGSII are on the unbranded, XEU, UK firmware, which is currently on LP7.

As for flashing Bell firmware, I would advise against it. Not because it would lock you in but because it will come with bloatware and is for, I believe, the "M", variant of the phone.

Details of flashing the XEU version are in post #1.

@BCwrangler. I have been with bell for over a year. Both with an Galaxy S and GS2. They were not locked at all. Just a SIM card is needed which is 5 loonies at the Source.

With Bell you will be upgraded to their flavour of ICS via Kies. Hope this helps.

Just as a matter of interest, what model phone is showing in...

Generally speaking, the newer the firmware, the more improvements. For instance, LPD is a much better firmware, IMHO, than LPQ which was the first to be released on Kies.

At the moment I am using the very latest ICS firmware, LPF, from Italy with a European language pack.

Roughly, the order of release for ICS has been..

LPQ, LP7, LP8, LP9, LPS, LPD, LPE, LPF for European phones if I remember correctly. Of course, it depends on which region you are in and which language packs you need.

Have you tried a Factory Reset of your phone?

This solves a lot of problems.

actually i didn't try this one

i think i will slove the problem and return my phone back to the initial status

and will remain also not able to update via kies
because my phone software is unbranded
so there is no way to update this phone in the near future.
