Discovered when running Quadrant that it identified my phone as being 1024MHz, not 800 as advertised.

Wrote about this over on XDA and a guy said that Quadrant must have been fooled and suggested I try Antutu. Guess what...1024mhz... He still doubted it, moved on to CPU Performance.... 1024MHZ.

Is your phone 1GHz also? That is why it works better than you would expect a 800MHz phone to work...

Yet another reason to grab an ELITE while you can grandfather it on your $25/mon plan.

Yes mine also clocked in at 1024 MHz!! I was wondering why I was able to run a N64 emulator playing Mario 64 on my phone! This phone keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to see how much this processor can be overclocked as soon as someone finds a way to root it.

Awesome, great to hear the positive feedback. I have seemed some negativity, but most of it uncalled for or comments made by those who didn't know what they were talking about. Most people I know who have been using an OV see it as a major upgrade, even those of us who were running a hacked ROM on the OV.

Yes I couldn't agree more. I had the Optimus V for around 9 months and loved it. In between that I bought a triumph on sale for $129 then took it back and exchanged it for the Optimus V after a week of use. And I would say that this phone is for sure a step up from the Optimus V.

Sorry if I don't follow you there? I haven't been able to find a discussion on rooting this phone other than in happenstance here and there? I just searched around this forum and couldn't find a root or ROM development area regarding this model?

Not sure who to direct this too, but the "standard" Elite information that is seen on the page references a 3.2" screen, and I think it says 800MHz phone which we all assumed, but might actually be wrong, for everyone, not just a few of us so far.

Thanks so much for everyone who has done anything to help this new phone get some reps.

It's in the Sub-Forum area under All things root. I hope someone will root this phone fast! I can't imagine how much more stable this phone will run with all the junk and bloatware off of it. It already runs so amazing!

Just tested my new Elite with Antutu.....1024MHZ.
How fun to find this little surprise. I never overclocked my OV, however,
I ran it pretty clean so I could tell a huge difference.

Now I'm with you.....looking for a way to root so I can use all my root
software like Titanium Backup. Hopefully, can get it to backup to the
real SD card and not the one in the internal memory.

I'm keeping my OV. If we ever have to change to a new activated phone,
the phones that came out before May 1st will not be subject to loss
of the grandfather plan. The only way to not lose it if your Elite goes
bye, bye, is to have it repaired. Hopefully it will be rock solid like
the other Optimus phones have been.

Here is what has me concerned:

Check that link and see if you think it gives VM a loophole. We may get
bit down the road.

If you want to backup all your apps to the sd card you will have to donwload the apps to a pc, then back to the sd card. When you need to restore you have to put the apps back on the pc and then into the system.
To much work.
I think for now it's just the PC for backed backing up apps.

You will be able to do that if you get the program installed, TB lets you chose where to save files. My tablet is like the elite and was able to chose the external SD and instead of the internal SD.

this come up in the tablet world with mini wars over it.

like my tablet is a Allwinner A10 Cortex A8 1.2Ghz CPU

yet you can find many who dispute it as it was only deisnged to be a 800MHZ chip, even though it test higher just like that, it not real for some technical reasons.

I don't have the phone, but it appears to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 MSM8655 w/ Adreno 205 GPU. If so, that's the same as the Triumph, upcoming One V, and a lot of other phones. It's a great single-core chip and GPU, especially with the updated GPU drivers Qualcomm released semi-recently.

Though judging from the Nenamark 2 scores, it sounds like the Elite may not have said drivers. My Triumph used to get about 12fps on that, and with the updated drivers in the latest CM7 ROMs, it does about 24fps (yes, performance of OpenGL 2 stuff basically doubled in the new drivers).

Considering the Elite has 40% as many pixels, one could expect ~30fps with the old drivers, and ~60fps with the updated, if you scale it by pixels (which I doubt it does). The only scores I've seen initially from an Elite owner were around 22fps or so. But hey, that's something a custom ROM can resolve.

Quadrant gives the most information that someone else could confirm whether or not it matches the processor you expect. We agree it has a 205, but the CPU isn't positively confirmed. Here is what Quadrant says:

Did some research which is contradictory:

2nd generation

MSM7x30, MSM8x55 and QSD8x50A - all 3 variations share the same design, differs only by the clock speeds. These 3 variations run at 800MHz, 1.0GHz and 1.3GHz respectively. Each of these features Adreno 205 GPU which runs at significantly higher performance level than Adreno 200 found in the 1st generation Snapdragon processor.

MSM7x30 is used by T-Mobile's HTC G2, HTC Desire Z and Verizon's HTC Lexikon/HTC Merge. MSM8x55 is used by T-Mobile's HTC myTouch HD and HTC Desire HD. QSD8x50A is rumored to be used by HTC Mondrian which will feature Windows Phone 7 OS.

All 2nd generation processors are manufactured using 45nm technology.

It indicates the processor in the Elite is a msm7x30 but if clocked at 1ghz is really a
MSM8x55.

I suspect this is a one off overclocked as they knew the processor could handle it, so why not

How it counts the system memory is a bit different. Each of the programs report the data in a slightly different way. What also is a bit confusing is that part of the memory is allocated to "internal" memory which gets referred to by some apps as a SD.

Either way, this phone has WAY more RAM than the OV.

okay guys, well i have my trusty optimus v that i've been using for more than a year now. this is one of the original OV's with the hotspot functionality. i don't know if i should upgrade to the optimus elite, or perhaps hold out until a better phone shows up at this similar price range. my first concern is that i won't be able to keep my 25$ plan as it is too late. my second concern is that it still doesn't seem totally confirmed as to what cpu/gpu the optimus elite is packing. The OV packs the 600mhz S1/Adreno 200, but not many seem really sure whether the optimus elite is packing an 800mhz S1/Adreno 200 (Enhanced), or an 800mhz/1ghz S2/Adreno 205. Finally, my last concern is the hotspot capability, it's a nifty feature to have, but it would'nt be a deal breaker for me, is the feature a lost cause in the optimus elite?

What would you guys suggest based on my concerns?lol

Seems like you waited too long so it is a moot point now. You needed to buy the Elite and activate it by the 27th. Everyone has reported the Elite as being 1GHz, but what is more important is the additional RAM which makes a slow CPU seem faster as there is less code swapping.

Since you missed your chance to grandfather your $25 plan, then it doesn't matter what new phone you go to as you will be bumped up to $35. Might as well wait for the EVO, but it will likely cost quite a bit more.

I suspect we will get back the hotspot capability since it was enabled on the Sprint version.

Seems they should determine what bandwidth they are allocating for the price and let you use it how you want.

The old timers will remember when you paid for a land line with one phone. If you wanted a second phone, you had to buy it from the phone company.

In those days, they would ring your number, and they would measure the ring voltage and determine how many phones were ringing, and if 3 were ringing instead of 2, or 2 instead of 1, you got a nastygram. Eventually the rules changed and you could buy your own phones and plug them in to your hearts content.

They determined you had bought the phone line and it was your choice how many phones, answering machines, and dialers you installed on the line.

Same with cable ready TV. They wanted to control usage by making you buy a cable controller per TV, then the TV's were able to tune all the channels without a cable box, or you could buy your own boxes and plug them in.

This isn't unlike the right to unlock a phone.

I get it is against the TOS, but it wasn't meant to be a feature on the OV either.

I have been having loopback problems on my Elite on 3g. I finally got
escalated to higher tech support at corporate. They tried to reset my
phone and kept getting an error. Now they are telling me the error
message states that the Elite is not compatible with the $25 plan.

The only way to fix it is to switch to the new plan and they would give
me a $35 credit for one month for free service, however, my next bill
would be at the new rate of $35.

I've asked them to talk to a higher up since all the due diligence I put into
this issue before buying the phone. They said call back tomorrow for an
update.

I told them I bought the phone at Wallmart and they have a 14 day
return policy on prepaid phones so would VM refund the money since
I was still within 30 days. They told me NO since I did not buy it from
them.

I'm glad I saved my Optimus V. Looks like it's the only way to keep
my $25 plan. I'll know for sure tomorrow.

I had a feeling that VM might pull this. I even explained that their
Public Relations stated that the Elite would be grandfathered in if
switched before the 27th. And that it was stated on the facebook wall.
That didn't have any effect since the new policy is in effect in the
database at VM and so far, no one will override the issue.

Well I finally worked with Tier 3 support. They said the looping and slow
3g speed was because the Elite must be on the $35 plan. Just wasn't worth
the extra money for the monthly plan and, If I'm going to pay more, I want
more phone like the 4G or other phones coming out.

Anyway, glad I saved my OV. I had them hook me back into my current plan
with the OV and my 3g data speed went from under 1oo kb to over 520 Kb with
the OV. Sitting in the same spot.

I hope you guys can keep your GF plan. They were going to give me one month
free if I kept the Elite, but then the next month would be $35 going forward.

Returned the Elite to the store just under the wire for a refund.

Even when I showed VM 3 separate postings on the VM facebook wall that
stated they would honor the grandfathered plan, they just kept stating that
phones released after May 1st, MUST be on the new plan.

Sorry for the heads up, but maybe some of you can keep your GF plan if
that is important to you as it is for me.
