What about:

-improvements to battery life?
-flash content when online and in picture messaging?
-access to facebook without getting an app?

(I don't have this phone yet. I'm waiting on the update to purchase which is why I'm so curious about the changes).

Flash is a pipe dream and unneeded in the mobile world. Especially in picture messaging.
www.facebook.com - no app needed :p

the update log for 2.1 says improves optimized hardware. i would assume the os will run more efficiently thus improving the battery life. most of the major battery issues was fixed in the recent firmware upgrade. no flash for moment. adobe made it self clear they will not support flash on the moment because it does not have the hardware to properly run flash according to them. you can easily access facebook through their mobile site or dling the facebook app in the market, flash is not needed.

Flash is a pipe dream and unneeded in the mobile world.

of course this is your own opinion.

of course this is your own opinion.

It surely is. However, it's a very informed opinion.

Flash offers the following benefits:

- allows you to watch Flash video clips
- allows you to navigate static webpages completely laid out in flash (have fun doing that, see you in an hour if your phone doesn't die)

Flash offers the following cons:

- biggest security hole on the internet
- uses lots of CPU power for anything more than a small ad, thus draining the battery quicker if you're watching videos or even just browsing most sites
- full of memory leaks
- 99% of ads on the internet are flash-based
- website tracking is mostly flash-based
- buggy as hell

I don't know man, the good parts here do not outweigh the bad parts. I'm pretty happy with the Youtube app. Once big sites like Yahoo, CNN, etc. start using HTML5 video combined with H.264 video codec (what YouTube uses) then there will be zero need for Flash.

Wow. Quite a statement. You are aware that a good percentage of web sites use Flash for Navigation right? Also...some high end sites use it for Photo Galleries.

Not to mention that my Windows Mobile i730 (2006) ran Flash just fine. So the 'dream' has been a reality in the Mobile World for quite a while now.

Edit...I get what you mean, but it annoys me that so many people tell me the reason we don't have Flash on these devices is because "we don't need it". Well, let me be the judge of that!

Well in the benefit column you did exclude the whole watch most videos posted on the internet thing youtube isn't even a minor blip on my radar. So that argument has already gotten old.

At THIS TIME yahoo and cnn etc are not using the format that my phone will recognize.

Would anyone mind neatly listing what we will get with this upgrade? You can also list what we might get as well (the things which haven't been confirmed yet.).

Thanks to the kind person who does ^_^

No one knows anything about what is included. Most are guesstimating based upon what the Motorola Droid is getting based upon their 2.1 update news. It is logical to think that we'd be getting the same features if they are OS related features anyway, but until Sprint comes out and says what will be included all we can do is guess.
