Help What made you choose the moment over the htc hero?

The lack of trackball and 'nicer' looking screen - plus I didn't want to slow the device with a heavy skin and HTC loves their Touch Flo (had it on my TP2 and usually disabled it for stock WinMo)... And when I say nicer, it's completely a matter of opinion - I know just as many people that say the Hero's screen has better whites and is clearer...

Before I had a Moment I had an Instinct. I didn't mind the virtual keyboard too much however, the physical keyboard on the Moment was a huge draw as I was tired of having virtual only. That and the Moment has newer, better hardware than the Hero. Coupled with the modifying I've done to it, I feel I've made my Moment a better phone overall, considering it's on 1.5.

For me, it was the keyboard for sure. That and I've heard nothing but bad stuff from trackballs. The optical trackpad, as well as the overall look of the phone were appealing to me. The screen as well; I can honestly say, I don't envy the LCD screens anymore. Sure you can argue it's tinted blue with like a 4% shading on whites and light colors, but I'll deal with that for sure for overall better picture quality.

On a whole note here, the Moment, I feel at least, is superior in hardware aspects. The Hero has nested this with software from HTC though, thanks to senseUI. you can get the Moment close to the Hero in some aspects, but it just can't be fully replicated as well.

It boils down to hardware vs. software. The choice is yours.

These phones are similar in so many ways that its so hard to choose. I'm really leaning toward the moment though because of:

-keyboard
-flash on camera

What I've heard thats bad about the moment:
-no flash content in the picture texting or web
-no notification of calls or texts when on the web

Not sure if the hero has flash content but i know it has notification of calls or texts whether online or not.

To answer your questions, the hero does have flash in the browser, moment doesn't.
And the notification bar is visible on the moment while browsing the web, so you'll be notified as well as able to respond all without getting out of the browser. The hero has a notification light which i love, as well as the ability to have the trackball light up when you get a text. It doesn't have the notification bar in the browser like the moment though.

I had the moment for three weeks and made the decision to switch to the hero and definitely don't regret it. I'm an extremely heavy texter/data user and the moments battery couldn't even get me through the school day (7:30-3). The hero is usually at 65-70% after school. I also barely used the moment's keyboard. I actually prefer a virtual keyboard. The moment really is a better phone performance-wise and the screen is gorgeous, but the battery life and the added bulk from the keyboard i didn't use ruined the phone's appeal for me.

Screen, Keyboard, and the Horse Power,

My coworker has the Hero. When were on lunch and she needs to respond to an email. She grabs my phone to use the keyboard.

I also went with the Moment because it has not matured yet. The Hero has matured with 1.5 already. The moment has not seen its best days yet. I think the Hero has. IMO

I was about to pay my tmobile bill and buy a motorola cliq. Was in the radio shack and asked about the cliq and the hero. The hero was acting kinda glitchy and the cliq was just odd in my hands. When I was about to leave the store the sales rep told me he had another option for me. I waited and he went to the back, came back and introduced me to the moment. I fell in love and almost left my g1 in the store. I switched over my number from my flex pay! The keyboard and screen with the smooth processing speed. Camera with flash!

Tails! Just flip a coin, and call it in the air.

For me, horsepower. Like several here suggest, the phone with more power should stretch my dollar further. That's my thinking any way. But with some butt-kicking phones about to drop on the market, I would probably wait a month or two and see where the price wars go when the market catches on fire. There should be some killer deals when Nexus One vs. Supersonic take the stage.

Couldnt have said it better myself. I didnt know at the time it didnt have flash but its really not a major problem for me.
