EDIT: Get this APP, use the username "free" to activate. I keep getting requests via e-mail for authorize.

I just thought I'd tell everyone that after being disgusted about the lack of working flashlight apps (that keep the camera flash LED on) for the ZTE Warp (I own one), that I developed an app that does work without Root.

I call it "Warp Flashlight", and will keep everyone posted on it's progress.

Not sure how many of you would use it as it's a warp specific app. but I intend on registering as a developer and paying the $25 (when I can spare it) to put the app. on the market place.

========================================================================

Warp Flashlight as of 06/03/2012:

Without Root = One toggle button that toggles the Camera LED on or off.
With this app. you can toggle it on to be used as a flashlight and it will not go off even after exiting the app. I've already used it to record videos in the dark with the flash held on.
** You can go back into the app and toggle it off, or use another app, that uses the flash and it will also operate normally at that point even if it was toggled on by my app **

Update as of 06/26/2012:

BETA version was released to one rooted user and the app. works!!
I need a non-rooted user to test, so please pm me if you have decent knowledge of your phone, and installing non-market apk files, and would like to test. Thanks!

Update as of 07/14/2012:

I have several Beta testers testing this app. I am working to resolve any bugs etc. My next goal is to improve battery drain on the app. so I will be cancelling the idea of adding a compass and also optimizing other functions to improve efficiency.

Update as of 07/28/2012:

Looking for 1 more Beta tester, rooted or not.
Version 1.2 uploaded and the following changes have been made:
** Removed screen time out. Flashlight now works regardless of screen state!
** Added the ability to Authorize without internet. Authorizing will now grant 10 free uses at the click of a button. These uses are refreshed each time the app. is authorized.

Battery drain should go down significantly now that the screen times out again!

Update as of 09/23/2012:

** Version 1.3 released
** Open beta is now in effect. Download the app and use the username: openbeta. If you currently use the app I recommend as always that you clear the data and uninstall the old app before installing the latest version.
** Changed minutes to 1,2,5,10 from 1,2,3,4,5.
** Removed authorize BUTTON and no internet button after either work to enable the app. Mostly a clutter removal step.
** Added code to make the camera LED flash on enabling of app in an attempt to narrow down a bug. Please update me if you know about the initial on bug and have noticed it is gone or not. I can't seem to duplicate it always on my phone so that I can just solve it instantly.
** Added a blink check box for a future notification blink after receiving a text or during an incoming call. To use it do the following:

Leave the number at a default 1000 or change it to as low as 0. 0 is the fastest blink but it's a little laggy. 1000 is more consistant but slower. After, simply check the box to blink the flash and uncheck to turn it off. Use this feature at your own risk, it's very buggy at the moment.

In the rooted version (upcoming), the flash will be amazingly fast and will be more responsive. It will also have dim, bright, and off options. I plan to make it an all in one app where root access will simply enhance the features and speed.

Update as of 10/20/2012. As promised:

Version 1.4 is out!
** Fixed a few bugs.
** Increased "No Internet!" uses to 20.
** Open Beta still in progress.
** Added ROOT support for Rooted phones:
-Blink is enhanced.
-Dim feature to dim 'on the fly'.
-On/Off speed is enhanced greatly!

Update as of 11/19/2012

Version 1.5 is out!
** Fixed a bug which existed after restart (Root related)

Update as of 1/17/2013

Version 2.0 is out!
** Flashlight app now requires 1 authorization to enable the app for 1000 uses. Use the code "free" to enable.

Update as of 1/29/2013
Version 2.1 is out!
** Added asynchronous authorization to be forward compatible with newer Android versions.
** Changed the blink system but it may be broken or not functional at the moment. The changes are a slide bar to change the blink rate but it's under construction :)

Videos and more to come.

With Root access = Off, Dim, and Bright radio buttons that make the Camera LED do what it says. Not sure if I'm going to strip this functionality out as it only adds the DIM option (camera LED at partial brightness).

Badass thanks man :) now i dont have to use rootdim and tiny flashlight good luck :)

Here are two pics, albeit not the greatest. I will need at least 2-3 Warp users to install this and let me know if it works fine or not.

Right now the flashlight turns off when the display goes to sleep. To me this may be a problem because if it's being used as a flashlight, the light could go off potentially in a short period of time. On the other hand, leaving it on for a long period of time accidently could make the phone's battery go dead quickly.

I'm not sure how other flashlight apps work as I have yet to test one on my Warp that works. If anyone knows please chime in.

Finally my idea is to keep the screen from going to sleep (if possible) but ask for a button to be pressed after X period of time passes in order to continue.

Feedback please!!

Oh and there are a few other things I need to do before allowing other Warp owners to "test" it.

Added a timer system which disables the screen timeout and keeps the light on for 1 minute. After a minute the timeout is enabled and the flashlight disables itself. It can be re-enabled immediately though by pressing the button again.

I am open to suggestion on the time. My reason for 1 minute is I accidently left mine on about 5 minutes and the led and phone felt pretty hot. It wasn't on fire by any means but I think leaving it on accidently for prolonged period of time (hours) would definitely shorten it's life. We don't want that.

You should make a setting for light time on how long it stays on like 1-5 minutes just in case people need it on longer

I use flashlight apps regularly so was quite disappointed in the lack of any working on this device. I'd happily test anything you need on a brand new, stock phone. I don't root or anything, personally.

Eh, forgot to copy this and paste it into my other reply. Sorry. :\

That sounds fine to me. I've been limping along with a screen-only app on my Galaxy Prevail for a year and honestly, the screen being on should be a good reminder to turn off the LED.

When you are ready I would love to test it. Warp user, not rooted. Thanks :)

Just touching base with everyone. Sorry it's been a number of days... I'm kind of living out of my truck now so internet access isn't always readily available. I have been busy trying to make some cash though on the side to change that :)

Anyways the app. is still in progress and I got a few bugs out of it with the timer that shuts it off. My next task is deciding on how to implement the timer minute selection and i'll probably just use a spinner or the camera - and + to change it. Won't be custom, but eh, we don't care what's on the screen as long as it works well and has the things we need, right guys!! :)

TTYL. Oh and if anyone can shed some light quickly on the best way to get this app to the volunteers here to test it (I'm thinking provide a link with the APK?), please do so.

OK guys, haven't stopped working on it, just been busy.

I've been working on getting this IT job (taking certs., paperwork, etc.).

Meanwhile I added the ability to adjust the flashlight to stay on from 1 to 5 minutes. After which it automatically turns off.

I think this is the base of the app(meaning the core of what I want is there) so I'll be privately distributing the APK soon for testing. After I will post it here. My biggest concern is that it will leak out and the unfinished version will get spread around, which I do not want to happen!

I have to say though, I have used it countless times as a flashlight. Really it's wonderful to have. Even my friends have been using my phone for the flashlight lol!
