Google Maps updated to Version 4.1, brings account switching, live wallpaper | Android Central

If you haven't updated already, do it now. Somethings different in the quality, but I can't tell exactly what. Looks better, but something subtly better.

A lot of the reviews are mentioning force closes. I'm a little nervous about updating.

Used it to find two locations and navigated fine. I explored the settings too, no force closes.

It seems to be on Droids, mainly. We should be fine. If something is wrong with this one, you won't know if it's fixed until you get this one.

Yeah, the article didn't specify, though, whether it was for the N1 or for everyone. It would make sense either way.

Can't even find the settings option in Maps.

Yeah, you could go search for the .apk of an older version.

Seems like the Droid has the force close issue but not the Eris. Better hope Google fixes it before you need it next.

Go to Marketplace, look up your downloads, it should say update available.

You need to be on 2.1 on the Eris to get this.

The Latitude Widget is needed to use the Live Wallpaper, but it is not available for me.

Using the leaked 2.1 OS.


Everything else about Maps 4.1 works fine.

I also have leaked 2.1 and google maps update works great...but can't find option for live wall paper...must just be a droid thing...that sucks but oh well...the detail of maps look greater! I LOVE THIS PHONE...but will be having an affair when the incredible comes out...shhhhh don't tell her...

I thought it was just me that saw the detail of the maps was greater. Good to know I'm not just seeing things! What a difference that made.

I thought it was just me that saw the detail of the maps was greater. Good to know I'm not just seeing things! What a difference that made.

It seems the closer I zoom the better the detail than earlier release. I can see the cars in my work parking lot, a lot better! def more detail. You are not seeing things! Its amazing. I can't believe what this little phone is capable of doing! its just insane!!!

No, Latitude in the Maps is to just use it in maps, not a separate widget to with the Live wallpaper option.

Did 4.0 give access to starred items? I remember being able to pull up my saved maps but not the starred items. If not, then this is a great addition.

I believe improvements in handling starred items was mentioned in the release notes. I did not test this though.

I didn't do anything actually. My phone said I had a Maps update, so I installed it and then chose latitude from the maps menu and it asked me if I wanted to Join, so I accepted. Then it showed my name over my GPS location. I went home, long pressed on a blank screen, chose Android Widget, and latitude was available. It just shows what friends are near your current location. It's kinda cool to be able to know exactly where your friends are....and it'd be really good for Parents.

The widget comes with the update, there is no seperate download... It gives you the updates of you latitude friends. Have you ever used Latitude?

It just shows what friends are near your current location. It's kinda cool to be able to know exactly where your friends are....and it'd be really good for Parents.

Too cool. Got the update notice this morning and just installed it. Very accurate too. I was reading about the live wallpaper, but I guess we don't have that, right? Not sure if I want to know exactly where my 23 year old is, however. And vice versa. Kinda like Foursquare?
