Im thinking bout returning my ERIS, i dont want to, i really like the phone - alot, alot , alot, . . . . . i became anti-social and didnt talk so much shit at work, it worked out really well .

But the "phone" function is killing me, the vibrate is too "soft" and i dont hear calls, but the calls are answered in my pocket, i have to keep my phone on vibrate at work and missing calls and having someone in my pocket screaming at me is not good [ i work on film sets, so its definitely not a good thing ].

I did the Lockbot thing but that didnt really help. . . . .

I dont know what to do . . . . . . . . . . .

But dash-mounting in the car and taking it out of my pocket when I am in one place for a while is enough of a solution for me. Besides, I like to look at it!

I say:
Go ahead and return it if this is too big of an issue.
Try something else. The Eris can't be for everyone, and I'd rather lose an unhappy member of the "Eris" community and keep a happy (hopefully) Android community member.
But that's just me.
Good luck! Maybe someone will have an idea to help you stay happy with your Eris. I love mine.

Dunno what to tell ya, man. The call-answering issue is a flaw of all non-flip phones. My EnV had that problem a few times.

About the vibrate feature, I dunno on that either. Maybe an app or something will fix it. Possibly even a root feature.

Honestly, to me that isn't a deal killer, but that's me...I rarely put my phone on vibrate, I don't put it in my pocket...I use a holster. Maybe that would help, I don't know. I have a habit of always checking my phone so I am never far behind. I love this phone.

I just remembered what I suggested to someone a while back who had the same problem.

I suggested using a very simple ringtone (which would probably mean a custom one you make, not something the phone has) like woodblock (ok, the phone has this one as a notification sound) or downloading the Mosquito ringtone and having you volume all the way up. If you don't know what the Mosquito ringtone is, Google it and you'll find some links to it too.

A friend of mine uses it in classes and it works wonders for him. It's his message notification, though, so it's useful for texting.

Use Mosquito in conjunction with the app that alters your alerts depending on your location (yes, it really does exist) and that should prevent you from having dogs attack you every time your phone rings off the set.

For messages, in Handcent, I use a custom vibration pattern, to RAPIDLY on/off vibrate five times.

Gets my attention every time. The vibrating itself, not so much. The vibrating going on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off... yes.

The missed call thing does agitate me. I noticed the ringtone plays for about 2 seconds then fades away. After that the little trackball flashes.

Anyone know how to fix that? I just don't know why the ringtone fades out like that.

If you are running 2.1 then:

Settings > Sound & Display and uncheck Quiet ring on pickup.

That is probably what is causing the fade.

The "Old_Phone" ringtone that comes with the phone is about as simple as you can get, IMO. And it's been more than distinct for me to be able to hear it when I'm upstairs in my home and my ERIS is sitting on the kitchen table downstairs. But I also have the ringer volume level up as loud as it can go.

My husband has the same issue with not feeling the phone vibrate in his pocket, so I fully sympathize.

I definitely hear what you're saying, lgh, and this has been one of my biggest gripes about 'smartphones' in general - that, one would assume, if you're going to take a device and improve upon it, you first make sure all of the basic functions of that device (in this case, A CELLULAR TELEPHONE) work properly and effectively. I've yet to hear of a smartphone of any kind that does that.

Thanks...that was it. Good looking out. Didn't notice it would fade once I moved the phone.
