Help oh god help! camera stopped working on HTC One S

Happened to one of my phones. I think the fix was to go into the applications section of settings, find the camera and clear data on that.

There's also a system update today and the notes reference something with the camera was fixed

They tried clearing the data and cache.

Not sure about the update, that might help if it was an issue that the update fixes.

the camera app on my HTC One S has suddenly stopped working after i downloaded some apps that use the camera. i have un-installed those apps, and tried clearing the data/cache on the camera app but that didnt work. what do i do!! :(
I had the same problem with my one s after long time of researching my brother said hold the power button and volume up until the phone switches off and then turn back on. I did this and it worked and I lost nothing, no music, no apps and no pictures. My Motorola xoom 2 had a problem where the volume didn't work and I did the same thing and it worked without loosing anything..... So releaved! :)

Okay my camera starts acting up again after hold power volume up after a few hours I go back to the same problem. Someone please help
I first tried the volume up and power button about month and a half ago when I had the camera problem and recently I had to factory reset my phone (not camera problem related). Even after the factory reset I had the camera flickering problem again, I think it's just a general HTC or specifically a HTC one s problem and sadly gonna have to live with it. Hopefully when the HTC one s gets jellybean which I think it has been confirmed, HTC will fix the camera problem...... And also HTC are definitely gonna fix the menu button annoyance which will probably be hold down the multi tasking button to access the menu button :)

I have same problem on my HTC one S. Every time I touch the camera icon to open it, phone go on reboot on itself. I download other camera app from market, but the phone just reboot when I try to launch to any camera. I had rooted my phone. I'm not sure, what stated my phone at. Can anyone help me ? I did factory reset many time, it wouldn't work. After I do factory reset, I still see all my info set up still there, I think the phone didn't factory reset, even I force it.

I had the same problem on my HTC One SV! But I have fixed it! You don't have to do a factory reset, all you do is to hold the power button and choose "Close all apps and RESTART the phone". I tried this after using all the other methods like clearing data and resetting my phone and this is the one that worked for me and I hope that it works for you too! :)

How long do you have to hold down the power button and the up colume button for? sorry my camera has also stopped working and when i try to open it sometimes it doesn't even appear and sometimes it flashes for a second and then goes. I am assuming it is because earlier I had installed a camera app and the problem happened after I had uninstalled it.

This usually happens after you use the frame mode on the camera. Its a soft ware glitch. 2 ways to fix. The first is to restart (not turn off and on) as this clears temp memory. second way is via apps/camera/clear cache.

Thank you so much for sharing this. My camera works but I could not make videos for over a month. I tried another tip which cost me to lose all my videos and photos but the problem was not fixed. I tried your idea and it worked great. Thanks again.
