Compare Note to S3

Besides the 4.8 inch of the S3 v. 5.3 of the Note, what are the other major differences? The S3 appears to have less horizontal in it's screen than the Note but I don't know for sure. Are the aspect ratios the same?They ought to quote screen area.

The Note has the Pen but the S3 is getting one. Once the Snapdragon S3 is being made for Verizon, why not the Note with ICS. I don't get it.

If the S3 is getting an S-Pen, it would mean changing the type of screen it has from capacitive to capacitive/resistive. The S-pen is not a capcitive pen and won't work on a regular capacitive touch screen.

The S3 will come with ICS preinstalled.

I think carriers want to push S3 sales with ICS. I think it might be a deliberate ploy (delaying ICS on the Note) to ensure the S3 devices will be sold. I mean if a regular consumer saw ICS on the S3 and GB on the Note, they might want ICS regardless as it already has the latest OS.

It's apples to oranges because one is a hybrid phablet and the other is a phone with limited tablet functionality. I would almost be willing to bet there are tablet apps that will be available for the Note which wont be enabled for the S3. Right now the Note is more similar to a phone because not many tablet apps exist for smaller screens. But in time tablet app developers will need to go smaller or go home as more compact and cheaper tablets are gaining in popularity.

Sadly the Note was never released complete with apps needed to unleash it's full potential but that will change soon. Those who need or want a stylus, need or want basic image/video editing, tech support staff and merchants who need mobile signature capture are who the Note is best suited for. Everyone else who just wants a high quality camera phone with a good picture for browsing and movies should be thrilled with all the S3 has to offer.

Screen size to me is important but so is being able to stay with Verizon. So ATT is out of the question until they have 4G LTE in the two areas I'm in. So, it's a question of waiting for a VZW Note or get an S3.

1280x800 is better to me than 1280x720 even though for some gamers it's the other way around. I could be looking at an excel spreadsheet and a little extra width can mean another column. Right now I have a 3.2 in screen. The S-Pen might have some Excel implications. I'm no digital artist. I have a feeling the pen could be useful.

Then there is the opportunity cost. By getting an S3 now I could be missing out on an incredible Note 2 in October. It appears that much of the research is being done now and a Note 2 does seem reasonable quickly. I've already waited 9 months for the Note.

I would like a Note with an Exynos Quad with LTE capabilities and at least 2 gig of ram.

I have been buying computers for decades and I never want to hear that I have too much ram. That's impossible. Apps get bigger and different strains on a smart phone can be helped with more ram.

However, if a VZW Note 2 will not be out till 12/12 which really means 2/13 forget it, I'll get the S3. Only thing that could change that is ATT hitting both my areas. At one point I was holding back for my unlimited data plan but unless I'm mistaken, VZW made that point moot by saying they won't exist.

Thanks for the links and info. I saw two comparison videos, one was yours and another was a choice after yours played. The comparisons made were for the S3 Quad Core vs. the Dual Core Note. I am in the US and I'd be getting the same processor as the Note has. Wouldn't that change the speed and smoothness and negate any speed advantage the S3 has?

Isn't the Snapdragon S4 a dual core processor?

How do we get an S3 now and in a year trade it in for a Note 2? That's really what I want. I want the size, the pen, 2gig Quad or Octo LTE Processor of a Note 2. Waiting 18 months is a little nervy of Verizon for not telling us what is going on. Plus, now there is an upgrade fee, I believe, and the cancel fee doubled or more.

Whoever would have believed by June 2012 there would be no Note for VZW and no information about that phone.

Note owners pretty much know they want a small tablet with calling capability and really should not be to concerned with what it lacks. In today's world it's not worth buying any electronic devices if your always going to crave the next best thing and can never be satisfied with what you get. There is always something new every six months or less and there will never be a one size fits all device. We should be happy to have a constant stream of fresh choices even if we can't buy them all. If you don't like the S3 in a few months there is always someone who will happily pay a bit less to take it off your hands so you can have the next best thing.

My problem isn't the next innovations in 6 months it's the phone I have that is 30 months old. If VZW had the Note, I'd buy it today. If ATT had 4G LTE in my area I'd buy that. I've been talking about the Note and it's large size and the things you can do with it for what seems like a year. So, it is what I want but no word comes from VZW or ATT.

If a Note 2 gets to VZW some time in 2013 (and no Note 1) then getting the S3 is the right thing. It's hard to understand that with the production of the S3 why the Note for VZW can't be produced. Are they that different technologically? What is VZW waiting for?

If it's marketing, I think they are dead wrong because there are people who want the Note over the S3, like me and I am considering waiting for it, which may be futile. The other thing would be that the Note at 5.3 inches would make the S3 at 4.8 inches look more reasonable and would dominate the market over the little Apples (until Apple gets smart and goes one large and one medium) and BB.

Maybe Samsung gave ATT and exclusive for a year, like they did with the IPhone. And how stupid was that since ATT's network is tiny compared to VZW and a phone like the Note thrives on speed.

But, for those of us wanting to stay with VZW, tell us what is going on or we may switch.

Just looked at a coverage map and in Delray Beach, FL I am great for VZW's 4G LTE but if I move to West Boynton, which I might, I am in the extended 4G LTE area. However, there is no telling when or if ATT will get there at all. ATT is not on Long Island either. The crux of the whole thing is, if you are at the edge of 3G and 4G, with 4G LTEs power you'll be a lot better off. ATT (1 bar out of 5) was awful and totally unusable with a 3G air card in Delray. VZW was 3 to 4 out of 5 bars using 3G.

These are big issues as we become more dependent on smart phones. Would someone buy a new house in an utterly dreadful area for cell phones? I'm sure many do but it has become a factor in the choice.

Alright to be honest im seriously considering selling the note and purchasing the s3. At first the size really wasn't an issue but later i soon discovered that it was kinda out of place. When i workout it barely fits in my shoulder sleeve. And hate to say it but when texting and driving its rather difficult with one hand. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place

I have to agree with ItalianHunk, it takes 1 or 2 seconds till you are a position you cannot get out of. Pull over or wait. Nothing is that important that's it's worth your life and the lives of others you endanger. Get rid of that "It Won't Happen To Me" attitude because I know people to whom it did happen and they had the same attitude.

Agreed 100%. I was texting about a year ago and looked up before I crossed an intersection just to see an old lady running the red light. It wasn't my fault, but I could have avoided it if I wasn't texting. Ended up totaling my car and I still get skittish at intersections with limited visibility.

I totally agree and have no idea how the management team at Verizon missed this especially after so many of us wrote so many important uses for a bigger phone in September 2011. I'd love to know the story behind this decision from Verizon's side and Samsung's.


It's as stupid as Microsoft not interfacing with all the fields of MS Office, as if size and space were a problem. The phone from the owner of Windows and MS Office gives you less synchronization than you can get from Documents To Go. That's Ok for Apple or Android but not MS. If they did it with the Dell Axim PDA 8 years ago, they should have had no problem doing it now. You wonder what the hell these execs are doing with their time. Maybe they should spend less time in the Lamborghini showrooms and more time trying to find better products to improve their company.

If MS had a Note like phone with full sync for Office, I'd go there in a heartbeat. However, they don't so I too am waiting for the Note 2 and will buy one either on Verizon or ATT. If VZW doesn't have it, I'll switch.
