So I just got my Droid recently, and one of the first things I'm looking for is a good syncing notes app. I've been reading other threads on that topic here, so I've tried a few out, but was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions for me.
Here's what I'm looking for:
In addition, I'm looking for something that is directory/structure based as opposed to just tags. I'm not really a tags person, unless they're presented in such a way that it works like a directory structure.
So far I've looked at:
Evernote
I've worked with Evernote on the desktop side, and there are some things I liked about it. But I'm not thrilled with the Android implementation. First off, although the desktop version supports "notebooks", it looks like I can't use them or even see them on the phone. All I see is a long list of random notes, and I have to start doing text searches to find anything. A shame, because Evernote has some of the best text formatting. Also, you can't really edit notes on the phone that you created on the desktop client, you can only "append text". And I've heard that you can't see your notes at all unless you're online. So pass for now.
3Banana
Looks pretty good. I'm still kind of annoyed that the opening page shows a bunch of random notes. However, I can at least go to the menu and bring up the Labels page, which shows categories based on labels. 3Banana works on #tags, so you've got to tag every note, or it will only appear in the generic All Notes. It's fast and easy to get in to the snaptic web site though, and the syncing is quick.
Uvise
This may be my favorite so far. Along with notebooks, it's also got shopping lists and other "modules" like debts and credits, quote of the day, word of the day, etc. Best part for me is that it is category based. Open a category to get to its notes. Only issue I have is that html links in the notes don't seem to work. (can't click on them). It would be nice if there was one more depth layer to the structure.
I know there are a few note apps that sync with gdocs, but I haven't much cared for the implementation.
Before I got the Droid I had a powerPC and had a great notes app called PhatNotes. I wrote to the developer to see if they were thinking of making an android version, and they are, but don't have a release date.
Anyway, just wondered if there were any other recommendations, thanks!
Here's what I'm looking for:
- Syncing is a must. When I create a note on the phone, I want it to be available at the associated web site, and vice versa.
- I want to be able to create long notes, not just brief one or two liners.
- I'd like it to have a fair amount of text formatting, including font color, bold/italic etc.
- Support for bulleted lists would be nice, as would simple table support. (I know I can't create tables on the Droid, but I'd like to be able to view them if they're in a note I've created from desktop.)
- Notes should allow embedded links, so I can click on a link and be taken to the browser.
In addition, I'm looking for something that is directory/structure based as opposed to just tags. I'm not really a tags person, unless they're presented in such a way that it works like a directory structure.
