Help Battery Drainage after Updating to ICS

When I first got the phone the battery would drain quickly, I was advised to switch of social hub and since then it improved loads.

I have also upgraded and installed ICS and noticed a big drop, for some reason I can't switch of background data which is also another drain but in all the excitement of getting ICS I completely forgot about Social Hub.

Switched it off yesterday and Im.up to 45% left with 11 hours use.

My advice is to kill social Hub and see how you get on, previous to this I was struggling to.get 8 hours out of ICS although I have now drained the battery 3 times so it could be that.

Good advice, although I did not have to do that myself. But logically there has to be one or more explanations as to why some people are experiencing poorer battery life after the update. My hunches are:

You're using your device more because it's got a shiny new OS.

Mobile data defaults to on all the time and apn switch apps no longer work.

Other apps like social hub default to on all the time.

Power saving settings previously in use reset.

Battery profiling reset by update.

Anyone care to add to the list?

I think the battery life of the note is quite impressive given all that can be done on this phone,it really is like a mini pc,at the moment charge mine every two days and am really happy with that considering how much I use it,I don't leave data or wifi on unless I am using it,why waste battery and I don't sync automatic its just not necessary for me,overall really happy :)

After almost 40 hours I still had 11% battery left. This was achieved by only enablling mobile data, wifi, bluetooth, or gps when actually needed.

In this time 400MB of data was transferred over wifi. I used my Bluetooth headphones for a couple of hours on and off, watched a few video clips, browsed the Web, updated apps, etc.

Not only do I have the battery drainage, but even clearing memory still leaves large amounts in use with nothing running, presumably being used by the system.

As soon as I can find an official (not custom) GB ROM to download I'll be using Odin to revert.

If any of you who have not yet upgraded can tell me the ref no of the Samsung UK GB firmware I should be looking for I'd be grateful.

Should have made a note before I upgraded - hindsight is a wonderful thing!

So basically you had everything switched off and didn't use the net much???

400MB over two days isn't using the Net much? Maybe not excessively, but that included six email accounts with a couple of hundred messages, an hour or so watching video clips on the Web and YouTube, a couple of hours of Bluetooth headphone listening, some phone calls and texts, etc. Pretty much my normal daily use of my Note. The key thing though is that I only allowed wifi, mobile data, gps, bluetooth, etc. to be on when I needed it.

If you haven't previously rooted your Note, doing a factory reset may solve your post-ICS problems. It's reported that if your Note has been rooted then doing a reset is a risky choice and may brick your phone.

Honestly man you guys should read more before just throwing out this type of info. I have read that a bunch of people have had great success resetting their phones on stock ICS with no problems and phones run great. But all the guys in the know say do not do it at all stock, rooted etc etc...they actually recommend downgrading first. Samsung ICS has an issue...at least thats what people who know way more than any of us say. They also say you can do it once, twice whatever but that 3rd time or 4th could be the brick. Just know beforehand that on a fully stock ICS you can brick by doing resets flashes full wipes etc. The rest is up to you but I would feel bad if I said just reset it man no worries and you end up getting a brick because of what I just threw out there.

And for the record I have read a ton on this because I was having serious battery issues. I have not seen it anywhere state that you are more at risk for bricking if you have a rooted phone running stock ICS.

I rooted mine and installed Titanium and froze a bunch of apps that were hogging up the juice on my battery. Kept track of the phone going into deep sleep with CPU Stats and tried to figure out what was causing the issue of no-sleep using Better Battery Stats. I can also say this has been a total pain to have to worry about it but I didn't want to just reset my phone for the fear of bricking. I can now say with all the little tweaks I have done I am getting good battery life without resetting.

I'm a bit uncertain here.

I've seen several reports, as stated by jbeef86, that a factory reset may (just may) brick the phone, rooted or not (mine isn't).

Oh well, suit yourself.

You will just have to bite the bullet. Your Note is under warranty, so the worst that can happen is that you will be inconvenienced for a few days. I haven't yet seen a post here from someone who had bricked their un-rooted Note. Not sure I have seen a post from anyone who had bricked their Note, full stop.

I just dont see how you would brick it if you havent tampered with it.

The function is there to use or it would be hidden.

If you have tampered with it then the risk is obvious because you yourself have messed with something you shouldnt have.

If you havent then relax, back everything up in Kies then restore.

Ps. Anyone that has done it, did you lose your auto spell and if so how do you switch it back on?
