I have a Galaxy S2 for which ICS updates have been released in India. On typing in *#1234# into the phone, I got the following data.

PDA : I9100XWKL1
Phone: I9100DDKE2
CSC I9100ODDKE2

The problem is that when I check for updates OTA, it asks me to update and starts downloading a 200+ MB file. Once downloaded, it starts installing and restarts the phone during the process. However the update fails in this process and come back to old screen which says update failed .. please try updating using kies.

On using kies on my Windows 7 enterprise laptop, I updated kies and connected the phone. But kies says " Your device does not support software upgrading via kies." :( What do i do ???

Don't worry at all: it happened to me 5 times: take it to Samsung Service centre and they will update your software. make sure you back up all your data on Kies and once upgrade is done, connect phone again and restore the back-up. It works very well.
If under warranty, you will need to take a copy of your purchase bill along. Else, they will charge you Rs. 337 for the same.

hi,
my name is anjan, fro bangalore. I brought my galaxy s2 one month back later i updated to Indian ICS through Kies. After updated it just showing only 687mb ram in task manager. All my games and apps are force closing in ICS.
I did hard restart and downloaded all apps again after updated but no use, still apps are force closing.

so advice to all who want to update their s2 ics is don't for ICS, stay in Gienger Bread only.

Anjan,

My phone performs better after the update. Take a back-up on Kies and take it to samsung service for reinstalling ICS: you will be aable to do your gaming with the device.

I was never able to use the OTA option nor the Kies, as Kies has major issues with Win-7.
I had it upgraded via the Service Center, it worked. No RAM issues either.
Do keep in mind that after you get your phone back from the service center after the upgrade and you have any issues like
-unable to connect to mobile internet
-phone automatically shutting down
Please wipe cache partition and factory reset data from the 3e menu (hard factory reset menu)

ICS works fine... better... on my SGS2 GT I9100

@anjankumarm7 - Your phone is not the original S2 i9100.. you are having i9100G.
That is the reason for your reduced ram of 687mb.
In original i9100 it will have around 820mb.
In India samsung selling more i9100G model.
Be careful while buying

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 2 purchased in Mumai in August 2011. Was updated to ICS through KIES. On typing in *#1234# into the phone, I got the following data.

PDA : I9100XWKLPW
Phone: I9100DDLPB
CSC I9100ODDLPC

My problem is that after the update to ICS sometimes I get a peculiar problem. The signal strength is shown as full, but the caller gets a "Phone switched off" message. I have got the same message when I call my cell using my landline. When I make a call using the cell in that state it just does not give any ringing tone or anything. It is quiet.
On restarting the phone it becomes normal.
The issue is random and I do not know when the phone is not working hence keep continously testing using other phones.
I got my MTNL SIM Card changed thinking that it had become old and was the cause. But the issue continues.
My family uses MTNL Prepaid SIM cards in LG and Nokia (non Android) phones and they do not have any issues.
I did not have the issue before the upadte to ICS.
