(VZW) New Data Plans and Muti Lines

I Have a quick question about these new plans, If you are on a family plan and u want to upgrade is it poss to use the other lines upgrade and transfer the new phone to your current line that still retains its Unltim status without losing it?? If so i think i may have found away to keep Unlti forever!

Yes you should be able to. And you don't have to switch to a share everything plan, but regardless any upgraded lines will have to use the tiered data plans..

But upgrading a line that's already tiered, and then flopping the device should work out fine... I hope. I'm planning on doing the same thing :)

I asked the verizon rep earlier today, via phone call, (as I posted earlier) this exact question and he said NO. I have a family plan with 3 lines....2 are smart phones with $30 unlimited data and 1 line is a "dumb phone". 2 of these lines are sitting on upgrades and I asked that if I upgrade one of these lines (data) would I keep unlimited and he said no.

I recently upgraded my wife's unlimited line...she lost her DX2.

So we upgraded my mom's line on my account to a Razr Maxx, immediately (as in during the purchase process) pulled it off my mom's line and put it on my wife's line, and switched my mom back to her dumbphone.

All in the same transaction...from my experience there is no need to activate the upgrade phone on the initial upgrade line for a day or even an hour. This was all done a couple weeks ago at Costco w/the cell phone kiosk there.

This same process should be available after June 28 as well...each line is still treated like a separate contract...if you upgrade on one line and kept the smartphone there you could go to a tiered data plan on that line (2GB/$30, 5GB/$50, etc.) or you could put everyone on shared data, but you have a choice.

You can also pull the smartphone off that line and put it on another line w/out issue. There isn't any requirement to keep a smartphone/data plan on a line even if you use that line to upgrade to a new smartphone - I've removed and added back smartphones/data plans to my lines many times over the years w/out issue. Nothing in the new plans indicates that is changing. The only rule is that you have to keep that line active for two years, even if you just put a dumphone on it.

I spoke w/a Verizon CSR who provided the following info:

VZW:*Ok let me try to clarify my points. You can upgrade your basic phone at any time after the 28th and it will not change your plan. However, if you upgrade your smartphone, you will need to change the unlimited data. However, you can keep your current Family Share Plan with the data per line or you can share it all between the lines on your account.

You:*OK...that's what I expected. Unless I upgrade to a new subsidized smartphone on one of my unlimited lines, they stay unlimited. And if upgrade another line on my account to a subsidized smartphone, only that new smartphone has to go on the new data plan.

You:*Correct?

VZW:*So let's say that you do have 4 lines on your account and the first two have the unlimited data. You can upgrade the 3rd and 4th lines and it will not do anything to the other lines. If you upgrade line 1, then you need to change the [unlimited] plan. If you upgrade line 2, you will need to change the [unlimited] plan for that line.

You:*OK...phew...that is what I expected. The only way I lose unlimited data on my two existing unlimited data lines is if I upgrade to a new subsidized smartphone on one of those lines. If I upgrade any other line on my account, I keep unlimited data on the two existing unlimited lines, but the other phone has to go w/the new plans.

VZW:*You can still keep your regular Family Share Plan that you currently have but if you want to, you can change your plan.

VZW:*So even if you upgrade your 3rd or 4th lines, you do not have to go to the Share Everything plans.

You:*So do you know how it would work...I have one line (my son's) that is 2GB/$30 per month. If I add a smartphone to my other son's line (that currently has a dumbphone) would data plans would be available for that fourth, new smartphone?

VZW:*Absolutely. You will still have the Single Line data plans that we currently offer available. There will just now be more plans available with the Share Everything Plans.

VZW:*So if it does not even interest you, you can completley ignore the Share everything Plans.

You:*So the option would be either the 2GB/$30 month for the new, fourth smartphone (same plan my other son currently has) or change everyone over to shared data.

VZW:*Our current data packages are 2GB for $30, 5GB for $50, and 10GB for $80 a month.

VZW:*They will still be available after the switch.
