Is there a dummy proof way of doing this? Like I dunno, a one click method? lol

I mean I can follow instructions all day, and I'm sure I could do it. I'm just lazy. Wanna do it the easy way.

Not really that I'm aware of. There could be an app out there but it'd have to be a root app and maintain a database of animations. Basically, there are 2 main ways boot animations are offered for download. One is a flashable zip. In that instance, you'd flash via a custom recovery just like a rom.

The other is just the raw boot animation in zip format without the file tweaks to make it flashable. In that instance, you can use an app such as root explorer to replace the current boot animation with the new boot animation basically by way of cutting the old one (or moving it to a different directory where it won't run from) and pasting in the new one. The caveat to that is that certain roms MAY launch a boot animation from a different directory than on a stock setup so you could have to do a little hunting and pecking to find the right location. I don't think that's often the case on the gnex as most all roms seem to house the boot animation at /system/media.

And on a side note, this used to be a lot of fun for non rooted users. Back before the Froyo days, stock Android used to run the boot animation from /data/local if I remember right (or similar locale) so anybody could change them because root wasn't required. Way more info than you asked for, sorry I was bored.

Yeah it's almost easier to flash them in recovery if they are a flashable zip. But if they aren't, or if you don't want to use that method, you can just unzip a flashable one to expose a META-INF folder and a system folder. Drill into the system folder and there'll be a subfolder for Media. Inside it will be the raw bootanimation.zip. You can pull it out and move it to the sd card and use a root priveleged file explorer and the cut/paste method. I still do it that way due to old habit.

Rom Toolbox made by jrummy has multiple boot animations that you can flash, granted they are all pretty old, and some do not completely fit the gnex

Sorry if this is NOOB question, but which ZIP do you download to your phone? On some animations he has a 4.0.2/4.0.3 zip along with an unspecified zip.
